Dead to Me: Kerryon Johnson

I’ve loved the “Dead to Me” series of articles. It’s provided an excellent way to create redraft content throughout the offseason and take a closer look at the week-to-week effectiveness of one or two players at a time. By going in-depth and zooming in, we can discover how these players have been hurting your fantasy redraft teams for multiple years. After the 2020 NFL Draft, there are a bunch of new players that are now dead to me in redraft. I already looked at Marlon Mack as a primary victim of the NFL Draft. Now, it’s time for another player who’s now dead in my eyes because of the NFL Draft, Kerryon Johnson.

A Look Back: Tight End Avoids

To continue my “A Look Back” series, I wanted to go back even further than the 2019 regular season and reference some of my pre-draft content. In the summer of 2019, I did a two-part article, looking at tight end targets and avoids for 2019. I already looked at my suggested targets in part one, so now let’s look back at the three players I said to avoid drafting.

Taxi Squad Spring Cleaning Part 3

In this series of articles, I’m looking at rookies from the 2019 class that can be removed from your taxi squads to make room for 2020 rookies. These are players that all have little to no dynasty value, but those dynasty owners selected in at least some 2019 rookie drafts. I’ll reference my 2019 rookie rankings from late May to give an idea of where I valued these players. My rankings are for a 1 QB, PPR format.

Eric Ebron to the Steelers

If I had to describe Ebron’s prevailing narrative, I would say that most dynasty owners consider Ebron to be a complete bust, who then had one outlier season in 2018 before fading back to normal in 2019. However, that narrative isn’t real. Ebron was consistently mediocre from 2015-2017, finishing as a high-end TE2 in each year. Both 2018 and 2019 are outliers compared to that stretch of middling performances. To determine the truth about Ebron, we need to go back and look beyond the top-line stats.

NFC North Factory Divisional Nuggets: Week 13

Every week this series will attempt to bring clarity to the goings-on, both on and off the field within each NFL Division so that dynasty owners can make championship level decisions based on our actionable information. Our writers will be digging through data and film for inference on coach/front office decision making so that they can keep you equipped with the “nuggets” you need to succeed. Many trade deadlines and such have passed, so this week I intend to focus on notable role changes for each team’s player.

In the Scope: Week 9

After another fairly-uninteresting waiver wire class hitting the scene this week, this is the perfect opportunity to save your priority for when one does. And with the fantasy football playoffs now just about a month away, it’s the time to take some big swings and find some potential league-winners that could cost you next-to-nothing to acquire.Without further ado, here are your Week 9 “In the Scope” candidates who have the potential to be tomorrow’s top waiver claims.

The Waiver Wire: Week 9 (Updated)

After Week 8 had just two teams on bye, Week 9 sees four teams with the week off. The Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints are all off this week along with some high powered fantasy assets. This week’s waiver wire isn’t the strongest so you may want to be a bit frugal. If you don’t have any pressing needs this would be a good week to hold on to your FAAB bucks or your waiver priority. There are some deeper options though if you’re in need. Let’s get to it.

NFC North Divisional Nuggets: Week 7

Jace Sternberger (TE)
The promising rookie looks to be set for a return from IR soon, as he is back at practice. I wouldn’t look for him to take the starting role from Jimmy Graham any time in the near future, but if you need a nice flier at the position, now would be the last time to pick him up before playing time increases his price.

Kerryon Johnson heads to IR, “Next man up” in Detroit Backfield

“Next man up!”Often what’s said after a player goes down to injury in the NFL, also holds true in fantasy football as well.Today, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter announced Kerryon Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ second-year running back, underwent surgery and will be placed on injured reserve (IR) after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s matchup against the Vikings.

Week 8 Streamers

In my week 7 streamers article, I recommended Cousins as part of a three-week stream, including Weeks 7-9. Cousins paid off against the Lions in Week 7, scoring 29.2 fantasy points in four-point touchdown scoring. This was Cousins’ third straight game exceeding 20 points, giving him momentum heading into this home matchup against the Redskins.

NFC North Divisional Nuggets: Week 5

Geronimo Allison (WR-GB)
It’s very clear that Allison is the team’s third-best option when Adams and MVS are both healthy, but if he finds a way to produce before Adams can come back from injury you’ll want to act fast in selling him. He’s only commanding an 11% target share and 11% of the team’s air yards, even with the increased opportunity the last couple games. Those figures are just not something you can reliably start any given week, as 11% of 35 passes is just three targets.

Divisional Nuggets: NFC North Week 3 Update

Allen Robinson, WRHe’s the best option in the passing game. Trubisky stares him down on plenty of plays. He’s averaging nine targets per game, good for 26.5% target share. Nobody else on the team is above 20%. Taylor Gabriel is outscoring Robinson for the year, largely because he’s probably caught 60% of his yearly touchdowns vs the Redskins. Even with the great Gabriel performance, Robinson commands 38% of the team’s air yards. It’s only a matter of time before Robinson starts to find the end zone and breaks out. If somebody is just box score scouting, I’d offer a late first pretty easily for him. He’s just entering his athletic prime, more than a year removed from the ACL tear, and getting awesome volume. Gobble up those shares.

In the Scope: Undrafted Week 1 Breakout Candidates

More times than not in redraft leagues, following Week 1 of the fantasy football season, a player appears.A player, although nearly forgotten in all drafts, is now so sought after that whoever holds the first waiver spot has the opportunity to claim a player, who not only holds value over players drafted rounds deep into the draft, but could essentially change the league’s season narrative. Sometimes these players are exactly what you’d hope they would be. Devonta Freeman, Alvin Kamara, and Phillip Lindsay are a few of these home-run, undrafted gems.
