On Tuesday, the Jets finally decided to part ways with star running back Le’Veon Bell. After trying and failing to find a trade partner, they released him. As Bell was a vested veteran, he was not subject to waivers, allowing him to sign with any NFL team. Bell did almost nothing for the Jets in 2020. He missed three games with a hamstring injury, but he did see playing time in two games. Bell totaled 19 carries for 74 yards, and he added three receptions for 39 yards. Considering the Jets’ poor offense, Bell scored no touchdowns, and he wasn’t a strong fantasy asset. I think everyone is pretty happy that Bell is out of New York.

Sunday was a day on which fans experienced the uplifting hope of seeing the return of Alex Smith, only to feel the despair of losing Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott dominated the headlines during the 2020 NFL Offseason, and they are going to do so again in 2021. The 1-3 Dallas Cowboys went into a Week 5 matchup with their division foes the New York Giants in must-win mode. During the third-quarter Prescott took a first-down quarterback draw as the Cowboys approached the Giants’ red zone. On this play he was tackled by Logan Ryan, as Ryan brought him down he rolled up under Prescott who suffered a compound fracture and dislocation to his right ankle. During the moment, other than thoughts and prayers for Prescott’s health the underlying fear was remembering Gordon Hayward’s similar and brutal injury in 2017.

The Vikings picked Irv Smith Jr. with the 50th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. At the time, they had two star receivers in Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, with veteran Kyle Rudolph as their starting tight end. Surprisingly, the Bears signed Tarik Cohen to a 3-year extension that grants him $17.25 million in new money. The Bears fully guaranteed Cohen $9.5 million with a possibility of $2.5 million in additional guarantees. The anticipation has ended for the Leonard Fournette landing spot. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue their hype-filled offseason by adding the 25-year-old running back from LSU. Leonard Fournette is going to be signing a 1-year $3.5 million deal with a base salary of $2 million. The rest of the deal is incentive-based correlating with playing time and yards. The Dolphins drafted Ryan Tannehill out of Texas A&M with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft to be their new long-term starting quarterback. While Tannehill decently filled that role from 2012-2016, he didn’t make much of an impact for fantasy owners. He ultimately failed to flash the upside he showed in college. Outside of 2014, Tannehill was nothing more than a back-end QB2, and he was a dynasty afterthought outside of superflex leagues.

At this point in the offseason, the season is in sight, so any moves have a more direct effect on 2020 redraft leagues. We know far more about each team’s depth chart, so it’s far easier to slot any new additions into a role. I broke down the Patriots for redraft in June, but so much has changed since then. The Patriots signed Cam Newton to replace Jarrett Stidham at quarterback. Also, we received news that Sony Michel had offseason foot surgery, leaving him in a race to be ready for the start of the season. That’s where Lamar Miller comes into play. As he’s an older veteran running back, Miller doesn’t carry much dynasty value, but he makes a massive impact on the Patriots’ backfield in 2020.
