If you were like me this morning, your alarm didn’t wake you up. The ESPN notification with this did. The Rams gave even more draft picks away (granted conditional) showing that they are all in on winning a title within the next two years. This solidifies the backfield for the Rams and helps clear a path for Rhamondre Stevenson in that crowded Patriots backfield. So, enough about real football, let’s talk about fantasy implications.
BestBall/Redraft Impact
Sony coming to Los Angeles helps give him a path towards more work than he would have found in New England. He wasn’t even in my top 40 for running backs before this but now he becomes a late-round pick you must make. Why? Darrell Henderson suffered a hand injury in his last pre-season game and while most reports say he will be good to go, Sean McVay will be more likely to give him a breather during the season. The Rams are all in on this season. Even with the arrival of Xavier Jones onto the scene in LA, Sony is a proven commodity and to me, he becomes the RB2 in that room and should take some series from him.
Darrell Henderson’s value takes a slight hit and he is no longer a safe RB2 and drops into the fringe RB2 range. We currently have him as RB24 and that’s right where he should be with this trade. He will still be the lead back, but he won’t be the every-down workhorse some forecasted him to be.
Dynasty Impact
There isn’t much impact in dynasty with this trade unless you are in a deep league and you have Sony Michel on your roster. You will probably begin seeing some trades requesting his services from the managers who are looking for running back depth and you should entertain them if you are not in contention. What type of trade? Sony has rookie third-round value to me. If you are offered that, I would smash accept.
Darrell Henderson’s value for dynasty has now dropped a little but he should still be held in the same regard that we had him before as the RB31. If anything, he drops a spot or two but nothing more.
Recap
The biggest takeaway from this trade is the trust that New England has in Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. Their values have now been secured, if not inflated just a little in all fantasy league setups due to this trade. As for Sony, he now has value and should be added to your roster if you have the room available for him since he is just an injury away from a lead-back role. For me? He is now my RB36. Darrell Henderson’s value in fantasy remains about the same and we shouldn’t be overly concerned with this addition. He might lose some value but overall, he remains an RB2 for this season.
