Film Evaluation

Contact Balance and Power

These are Hampton’s biggest strengths. He runs with great pad level, which allows him to power through defenders. He has excellent contact balance, never goes down with first contact, as his yards after contact reflect, and has a nice forward lean.

Vision and Patience

Hampton has great vision and understands how to avoid bouncing it to the edge every play. He is efficient. There are a lot of plays where he gets met in the hole by a linebacker because he did not press the designated hole.

Speed and Acceleration

Omarion Hampton has excellent acceleration and can set the edge on almost every play. The long speed leaves a lot to be desired. Defenders have run him down several times.

Footwork

He has good footwork at the line. He can navigate holes well with cuts. However, once he gets into the open field. Guys with his size do not typically have the start/stop ability of smaller backs.

Receiving and Pass Protection

Hampton was never used in a role as a serious pass catcher but is good after the catch. I don’t believe the PFF grade reflects his pass protection. He has great pass protection skills and takes on defensive backs and linebackers well.

I watched Appalachian State ’23, Minnesota ’23, and Miami ’23 games. After these three games, I feel he has the talent/skills to be a two-down back. Before I say he is a three-down back, I need to see more receiving work.

Summary

Currently, NFLMockDraftDatabase projects Hampton to be a fifth-round pick. At Campus2Canton, they rank Hampton as Devy RB26 and 2025 RB6. At DynastyNerds, they rank him Devy RB24 and 2025 RB10.
