The Green Bay Packers selected Josiah Deguara, Tight End, out of Cincinnati. He was the 94th pick in the third round and was the third tight end drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Deguara is 6’2” and 242. He played four seasons in college and will be 23 years old at the start of the 2020 NFL season. Deguara did not have any significant injuries throughout his college career.
While he broke out as a junior, he wound up getting named First Team All-League as a senior. He brought in 39 receptions, 504 yards, and seven scores as a redshirt senior for the Bearcats.
When reviewing film, Deguara shows up as a good blocker with good zone reads. He runs routes well and moves well without the ball in his hands. Throughout his senior year, he was moved around the field a lot and used as a split out receiver and H-Back. He will likely run into issues getting separation at the next level which will limit his offensive potential.

Aaron Rodgers was starved for weapons coming into the 2020 NFL draft. I don’t know that this one moves the needle too much for me. Jace Sternberger is coming into his second year, Robert Tonyan was just brought back to the team, and Marcedes Lewis is in the tight end room. It is a crowded room as is, and I had expected a big year from Jace Sternberger. Green Bay targeted their tight ends 18% of the time in 2019, and this is another body for Rodgers to seek out. He is slightly undersized for the position, but if he is able to put together a nice pre-season perhaps he could be TE 1 in Green Bay. Matt LaFleur may run more two-tight end sets, but I don’t see this pick as helping the Packers offense in any significant way.
In order to stick on a team, Deguara is going to need to improve his blocking and focus in on that role. Because he has a chance to play if he beats out Sternberger and Tonyan, he can be targeted as a very late pick in rookie drafts and immediately placed on taxi squads.
