Jordan Love to Green Bay NFL Draft 2020

Jordan Love, Utah State, QB

Height – 6’3”    Weight – 224 lbs.   Hand Size – 10”

Arm – 32”   Wingspan – 80”  Age – 21

With the 26th  selection in the 2020 draft, Love finds himself landing in Green Bay where he will be able to develop behind Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will most certainly wait a few years while Rodgers plays out the duration of his career. Jordan Love’s talent isn’t the question at all but rather the consistency in which it flashes and the need for surrounding talent. Of course, the Packers believe he can be the Rodgers successor by taking him as the fourth QB overall.

Love played three years at Utah St. but mainly gained traction during his sophomore season in 2018. Jordan Love offers extreme upside to most NFL franchises and has gotten stretched so far that we have seen Love compared to Patrick Mahomes of all players. I won’t go that far, but he does offer athletic ability in an NFL landscape that almost needs mobile-accurate passer’s to operate successfully.

Love was most successful when surrounded by talent in 2018, but found himself falling from 11th overall in CFB passing statistics to 71st overall in 2019. It shows he can be inconsistent, and the NFL will not tolerate inconsistency at the most premier position demonstrated by another NFL comparison of Love’s being let go this offseason, Jameis Winston.

Posting lower totals than the other QBs of the class, most of Jordan Love’s rise has come from his ability to make plays with his feet while also providing great ball placement. Love can deliver touch passes or laser beams depending on the situation and his tape shows that. Scouts perhaps believe if you surround him with talent, it’ll unlock his ability to dissect defenses and succeed. He needs to make better decisions as he did in 2018 where he posted a 32 TD to six interception ratio, and keep that consistent to prove to NFL teams he has what it takes. As for dynasty teams, it is always true that a rushing quarterback is valuable regardless of team fit, and that rings true here. As long as Love finds the field, he needs to be starting for your roster due to his added rushing value.

I fully expected Love to take a seat behind any quarterback currently in the NFL and learn how to operate at this level. If he is forced onto the field too early he may not be able to fix his mistakes. 2019 proved rough with a 20 TD to 17 Int ratio showing regression and poor decision making. If given the reigns of an offense too soon we could see similar issues, but with time to develop, we could see much more. Taking Love knowing the risk/reward factor is more relevant and that you may need to wait a while before seeing production.

Love’s play shouts upside and he has all the tools capable of making all the throws at the NFL level. He will have to sit behind Rodgers in order to learn the speed of the NFL game, but when the time comes to start, he will be a fantasy force to reckoned with. Love is mobile and able to make unbalanced throws with ease. However, his inconsistency has plagued his college career and thus has led to him landing in a spot where he will not be trusted as the starter right away.

The Packers, who are in a win-now mode, make a play for the future with this pick trading up to twenty-six to select Jordan Love, indicating his special ability as a passer. Sitting behind one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game has its perks, and Love should develop into an elite talent if all plays out as planned for Green Bay. For dynasty drafts, he should be ignored in single quarterback formats for the time being; he can probably be taken for a late second-round rookie selection in superflex drafts with this landing spot. It will be a while before he finds his way onto the field and is a project for both your dynasty rosters and the Packers.
