Size and Speed: In 2017 as a freshman, Dylan Moses came to the Alabama campus as a 6-foot-3, 235-pound freshman and proceeded to run a 4.46-second 40-yard dash. He then bench pressed 405 pounds, squatted 500 pounds and power cleaned 335 pounds. Four years in the Crimson Tide program has allowed Moses to add muscle weight without sacrificing explosion. Moses’ SPARQ rating (according to ESPN.com) is 132.48, which is extremely high for any athlete and elite for a linebacker.
Production: The 22-year old has three great seasons under his belt. Moses lost his junior season to injury, but in his three years on the field he racked up nearly 200 tackles, 21.5 TFLs, six sacks, and two interceptions in 35 career games. Additionally, the 2020 season brought Moses his 2nd national championship ring to go along with his 2017 title.
Weaknesses: While Moses loves attacking the line of scrimmage, he isn’t the most productive pass rusher. Moses uses his world-class speed to run by college blockers to make tackles and disrupt the quarterback. However, professional blockers will typically force the Alabama alum to use technique and pass rush moves to get to the QB. If Moses wants to have a future rushing the passer, he must improve his pass-rushing techniques.
Injury/COVID Impact: Dylan Moses did not sit out for COVID, but did sit out all of 2019 with a torn ACL in his knee. Later, it was revealed that throughout the 2020 season, Moses was playing through pain to the point where he thought about quitting football. If he can finally get fully back to 100%, Moses can be an elite NFL linebacker.
Draft Slot: Moses is expected to be chosen between picks 25 and 40, giving him a chance to play for a contender early in his career. However, in my opinion, I believe that Moses will be selected early in round two for a team that will need defensive help. Philadelphia could be a great fit for a competent off-ball linebacker like Moses. The Eagles linebacker room includes guys like Duke Riley, T.J. Edwards, and Nate Gerry, so a highly talented addition would be welcomed.
Rookie IDP Ranking: Dylan Moses will most likely be in the top two rookie IDP defenders along with Micah Parsons. However, it all depends where each player is selected and how many opportunities will be afforded to each star linebacker out of the gate.
