The 2022 NFL season is almost here! Everyone is drafting, even the most casual of fantasy managers. The big national tournaments are filling up fast and in the dynasty world roster cutdowns are nearly upon us. In deeper dynasty leagues that may not be a huge challenge, but in FFPC we cut down to 20 inseason, including the K and Def, with 3 additional spots for IR. The cuts are due this Sunday night, September 4th just before midnight.
Thankfully, most of my dynasty squads are ready for my final cuts to be made in reality and not just in my spreadsheet. There are always at least a couple of leagues where I have some difficult decisions to make but for the most part, it is pretty smooth for me in my 27 FFPC dynasty leagues (19 are SuperFlex or TriFlex and 8 are 1QB).
Other managers may not be in such a fortunate position and are looking to unload players that either they think hold value or that maybe you do. So now is a great time to be on the prowl for cheap deals, especially if you are rebuilding.

This offseason I sold seven of my FFPC dynasty squads to lessen my burden a little, and to allow me to scratch the itch of doing three startups! Two years ago I purchased many FFPC teams at dramatic discounts, but some were knowingly “project” teams where the discount was for a very good reason. Others were discounted simply because the previous manager wanted to get out, even though it may have been a strong roster. It happens.
I have written about tracking the Franchise Value of my teams as the aggregate of the individual player (and draft pick) values on each team, in a numeric system very similar to that of Dan Hindery’s monthly trade value chart. For reference, I have Jonathon Taylor as the dynasty RB1 (big shocker) and worth 50 franchise points in this system. In SuperFlex leagues I have both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen tied as QB1 and 60 points each.Â
I have also written about the need to define how much a roster spot is worth. It can vary along with any other asset but an open roster spot is not something easy to wrap a number around. I came up with 7 as a baseline (specifically for FFPC format).
After two offseasons and with most of these project teams ready to compete in year 2 of this, here are the results of their Franchise Value progression:
*Bright green is SuperFlex, white is 1QB. There is likely a bit of rookie fever bias built into this given it is a snapshot taken July 1st. I can tell you there are numerous rookies that I gave value to here but I have since dropped way down. Dameon Pierce is not one of those. Whatever bias may have existed in 2021 has been tested, however.
The VAST majority of my portfolio is ready to dance and I can’t wait to get it on!!
Yeah, there are a couple of dud leagues in there that I just can’t seem to get traction within, but I’m going to keep grinding as always. In my Franchise Points system, I have found 300 to be a rough estimate of what is needed to be a competitive playoff team in a 1QB league, and something closer to 375-400 for SuperFlex.
