This off-season on the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast we debuted a segment dubbed “ADP Sniping.” The idea was to take advantage of drafting online by identifying players that were pushed down by specific website rankings because we all know that there’s nothing better than sneaking one by your league mates. Well, the fun doesn’t have to end with the draft. One of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football (you can call it a “life hack” if you want… that’s hot now, right?) is “Waiver Wire Sniping.”
This strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free. “Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.
Team on Bye in week 11: CAR, IND, NYJ, SF
Week 11 Streaming Options
Jay Cutler vs. TB (17%) – Ah, Jay Cutler. All the GIFs and memes in the world cannot accurately describe the relationship fantasy owners have had with you over the year. I know Jay was pretty much the definition of “disappointment” earlier this season as he failed to exceed 14 fantasy points through the first 8 weeks of the year. However, after dealing Jay Ajayi at the deadline, Cutler had 42 pass attempts for a season-high 311 yards and three touchdowns. The first time this season Cutler eclipsed 230 yards. Cutler and the Dolphins get Tampa Bay next week who give up the 7th most points to the QB position.
Eli Manning vs. KC (49%) – From Smokin’ Jay to Eli Manning Face. This is quite the week for QBs. Eli made an appearance here last week as well as the Giants will face off against San Francisco this Sunday. But even if you don’t need him until week 11, Eli isn’t a bad stash facing off against the Chiefs who currently give up the 6th most fantasy points to QBs.
Dion Lewis @ OAK (54%) – The Patriots are coming off the bye this week and will face Denver so it’s possible that Lewis could still be on your Waiver Wire heading into week 10. In New England’s last three games, Lewis’ carries have increased each week (11, 13, 15) and Lewis has out-carried week 1 superstar Mike Gillislee. On top of the increased workload, the Patriots will face off against a Raiders defense next week that has given up double digits to a RB in every game since week 3.
Damien Williams vs. TB (34%) – Williams’ backfield mate Kenyan Drake is currently 55% owned, and I’m not sure why the ownership percentage is so far apart. Neither will be world beaters this season, but in the first game without Ajayi, the touches were pretty even at 15 to 13 in favor or Drake with Williams picking up the TD.
Jeremy Maclin @ GB (59%) – After working his way back from injury, Maclin has been able to put up 9+ points in his first two games back. With the Ravens on bye this week, it’s possible that Maclin hit your wire this week. I like his matchup next week against Green Bay so take a look to see if you can make this sneaky add.
Marqise Lee @ CLE (56%) – Marqise Lee is having a nice little run here in the middle of the year for this “run first” offense. In each of Jacksonville’s last three games, Lee has tallied 70+ plus yards and brought in his first TD of the season last week. That not enough for you? He gets the Browns next week. There you go.
Tyler Kroft @ DEN (53%) – Kroft has been a nice streaming TE option a few times this season and gets another great matchup next week against Denver who gives up the 2nd most points to TEs this season. If you’re missing Jack Doyle or ASJ next week, get Kroft.
Charles Clay @ LAC (35%) – It sounds like Charles Clay could suit up this Sunday for the first time since week 5. Next week against the Chargers isn’t a great matchup, but the Bills schedule the rest of the season features 4 plus match ups from weeks 12-16.
Cincinnati Bengals @ DEN (27%) – Brock Osweiler? Paxton Lynch? Sounds like streaming to me.
The Stashes – Listed in order of priority.
RB: Kenyan Drake (55%), Latavius Murray (43%), Darren McFadden (30%), Marlon Mack (41%), Devontae Booker (7%), Rex Burkhead (9%), Rod Smith (17%), Danny Woodhead (34%),
WR: Corey Davis (47%), Cooper Kupp(53%), Danny Amendola (49%), Martavis Bryant (43%), Mike Williams (4%), Corey Coleman (21%)
TE: Greg Olsen (47%) – Can return after the Panther’s week 11 bye week.
Week 11 Potential Matchups to Avoid: ATL @ SEA, CIN @ DEN, CLE vs. JAX, DET @ CHI, LAR @ MIN, TEN @ PIT, WSH @ NO
