RB Theorem: Otis Armstrong Takes Charge in 1974

By Joshua Johnson | August 14, 2019 | Comments Off on RB Theorem: Otis Armstrong Takes Charge in 1974

The 1973 season saw the NFL’s first 2,000-yard rusher. Orenthal James “O.J.” Simpson whisked his way to history by rolling up 2,003 rushing yards. His Buffalo Bills only needed him to handle the rock 332 times. That was good for an average per attempt of six yards. Those were truly astonishing feats by the man most fans referred to as “The Juice.”
Enter the Broncos 1973 first-round pick (9th overall) Otis Armstrong.

This is a collection of my thoughts and insights on the first preseason week of year. While I haven’t gotten to watch every game yet, I do plan to go back to watch all that I can. With that said I have watched quite a few games and highlights of others. There is a little bit of everything here from rookies and veterans, injuries and possible replacements, to breakouts and busts. Let’s take a look at this past weeks nuggets.

The Offseason Waiver Wire

By Shane Manila | August 14, 2019 | Comments Off on The Offseason Waiver Wire

This week’s waiver wire article is all heavy on backup running backs. When scouring the waiver wire, you should be looking to add players who are only an injury away from a significant role. Wide receivers don’t typically fit this bill because even when a wide receiver goes down to injury, his targets can be distributed among many other receivers, running backs and tight ends. When a running goes down, his touches are usually not distributed to more than one or two other players. You can hold onto these players and hope that the become outliers. Or you can flip them for late-round picks or FAAB it’s all profit since all it will take to acquire them is the roster space.

Cream Rises To The Top (CRTT)

By Chris Smith | August 13, 2019 | Comments Off on Cream Rises To The Top (CRTT)

People often say the preseason is worthless. Either the game plans are too basic and there is nothing on the line. Sometimes injuries could lead to losing a favorite player on the draft board. But to me, the preseason is the most crucial part of the fantasy football season. It’s all about knowing what to look for. Here are some examples of key traits to be aware of:……………

In this article, I’m going to give you some tips for how to handle the final rounds of your redraft leagues. Monday IDP Wrap Up – Preseason Week 1

By Scott Osterloh | August 12, 2019 | Comments Off on Monday IDP Wrap Up – Preseason Week 1

This article will be published weekly and will include interesting IDP stats, analysis, and possible sleeper options to pick up as the year progresses. So, without further ado, let’s wrap up the IDP news of NFL Preseason Week One.NFL Football is back baby (let’s be honest, the HOF game doesn’t count) and even though few true starters played much this weekend, we have plenty of exciting game action to over analyze!
 1)      LB Kenny Young, Baltimore Ravens –The Baltimore defense toyed with the Jaguars at home this week, shutting out Jacksonville in a 29-0 beat down. Of the many standouts on defense, Kenny Young was the star, securing five total tackles, including a de-cleater of Gardner Minshew, in his limited time on the field. Young has a chance to be a starting LB for Baltimore. If he is, he’ll have plenty of IDP production in 2019.

Michael Thomas Extension

By Mike Holder | August 12, 2019 | Comments Off on Michael Thomas Extension

Michael Thomas’ contract has been reported for a few days, but the salary cap information for Michael Thomas’ contract extension is publicly available now. If you read some of my other pieces on player contracts like Kyle Rudolph or Tyler Boyd, you know the difference between something dynasty owners should react positively to, or to fade doing so. Generally, when a player makes money as Thomas did, we don’t need to question if the guaranteed money will be substantial enough. However, the first time we don’t follow the process step by step is the first time we will find ourselves burnt by doing so. So let’s dive into his new deal, shall we?

Dynasty Outlook: Michael Gallup

By Samuel Wallace | August 10, 2019 | Comments Off on Dynasty Outlook: Michael Gallup

Take a close look at the following information and try to answer this question: does this sound like an offense that can effectively support a second relevant fantasy wide receiver?
-A QB who has failed to eclipse 4,000 passing yards in a season during his career
-A team that has averaged 26th in the league in pass attempts during the last three seasons
-An RB who is averaging 100+ rushing yards and 130+ yards from scrimmage per game in his career
-A team that has averaged fifth in the league in rushing attempts during the last three seasons
-A recent addition at WR that has posted 1,000+ yards in three of his last four seasons

2019 Deep Sleepers for Redraft

By Carl Churchill | August 9, 2019 | Comments Off on 2019 Deep Sleepers for Redraft

It’s late in your draft, and you’re scrolling and scrolling. You’re looking for a late-round sleeper to catch your eye. You ask yourself, “Who could have a big season?”. Should you take the handcuff to your early-round RB? Or maybe someone with more upside. You narrow it down to a few players and start to think it through. Do you want the veteran who many are doubting due to his age? Or do you want the young athletic freak that could finally put it all together this year? They could both end up hitting, or they could both end up being nothing. Well if they meet the two criteria I’m about to reveal they could both be great additions to your team. There are two main things I look for in my late-round picks, and that is: OPPORTUNITY and EFFICIENCYOpportunity is often what determines a player’s level of fantasy production. You can’t be an RB1 without plenty of opportunities, in the form of carries and targets. Ezekiel Elliott led the NFL in carries last year, so it is no surprise he also led the league in rushing yards. Julio Jones led the NFL in targets last year, and he too led the NFL in receiving yards. As you have heard, many analysts say, “Opportunity is King.”Efficiency is needed when a player doesn’t necessarily get an abundance of opportunity. What a player lacks in opportunity, they must make up for that with efficiency. For example, let’s compare Antonio Brown’s and Michael Thomas’s 2018 seasons. Brown had 168 targets, for 104 catches and 1,297 yards. Thomas had 147 targets, for 125 catches and 1,405 yards. Thomas was able to outproduce Brown in catches and yards even though he had 21 fewer targets. He was able to do this because he had a much higher catch rate, 85% vs. 61.9%. Posting high yards per reception, yards per carry, and performing well in other more advanced efficiency statistics can also allow a player to outperform their perceived opportunity. Below are a few players that meet the above criteria this year.

Dynasty Strategy: Going All In

By Michael Oshita | August 8, 2019 | Comments Off on Dynasty Strategy: Going All In

In Dynasty Leagues you are either rebuilding, retooling, or going all-in. For some of us, the fun in a dynasty league is rebuilding or retooling our team. Hell, isn’t that the reason you chose the worst-rated team in Madden franchise mode to build them back up from the bottom to get your hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Sometimes the lines can get blurred when you’re in the retooling phase. You’re one or maybe two players away from putting you over the top and one or two away from forcing your hand into a rebuild.I’ve talked about doing the rebuild for your dynasty league. Now let’s talk about going all-in. Although not as “scary” as a full rebuild, there are some things that you need to keep in mind as you push the chips to the center of the table.WHO ELSE IS IN ALL-IN MODE?Everyone is operating on a different timeline. As noted before, you are either rebuilding, retooling, or going all-in. Take an honest assessment of your team and your opponents’ teams. Every player in fantasy should be viewed as a stock, either rising or dropping. If your players are rising then you’re headed for, or on the cusp of, all-in mode.CONGRATULATIONS! You’re almost there. As fun as it is rebuilding a team, we’re ultimately playing to win it all. To rub it in our friend’s face, indulge ourselves in the spoils of a successful season. But how do you put yourself over the top, ensuring a victory over your fellow “all-in comrades”?Simple, get veterans.Rookies are coveted in dynasty leagues. They’re your team’s future, the foundation on which your team will be built on for future seasons’ glories. Here’s a fun stat from last year, because I know we all love stats. Baker Mayfield, Saquon Barkley, Calvin Ridley, and Chris Herndon were all the highest scoring rookies at their respective positions last year. All of these rookies finished outside of the top 15 in scoring at their position last year, except for Saquon, who passes the eye test and looks to be a fantasy football god in the making and has “Zero to Hero,” from Hercules playing in my head every time I see highlights of him. Baker finished at QB16, Calvin at WR18, and Chris at TE15.

Deep IDP Fantasy Buys

By Darrell Winstead | August 6, 2019 | Comments Off on Deep IDP Fantasy Buys

am going to give you some deep, buy low IDP options for the upcoming fantasy season. These are players that are not on the radar of most IDP fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues but should be. The players on this list, are young guys on the rise, they may get their chance to make an impact for their teams or they may be rookies with no real competition ahead of them on the depth chart. Let’s take a look at these players and what they could help for your fantasy team.

CB, Isaac Yiadom, Denver Broncos The second-year corner out of Boston College, was a low-risk rookie buy last season but wasn’t owned in many leagues (less than 5%). As a rookie he played in thirteen games, starting one, he played a total of 439 total snaps. He played 263 defensive snaps, which was 24.3% of the Broncos defensive total. He also played 176 special teams snaps, that accounted for 49.1%. As you can see, he was a core special teams piece in his first year….

Dynasty Outlook: Will Fuller vs Keke Coutee

By Samuel Wallace | August 5, 2019 | Comments Off on Dynasty Outlook: Will Fuller vs Keke Coutee

Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen quite a bit of discussion and debate surrounding the Houston Texan’s wide receiving corps. At the top of the depth chart is arguably the best receiver in the league in DeAndre Hopkins. There isn’t much room for discussion as to who will command the majority of targets in that offense.
