Dynasty Week 8 Reaction: Buy and Sell

Dynasty managers throughout the season are constantly evaluating their rosters and determining what players to buy and who to trade or cut loose. With this, it’s time for the reaction to Week 8 of buy and sell within Dynasty. I’ll analyze veteran and rookie profiles to project future values, which is the key to building a successful Dynasty Fantasy Football team.

My buy candidates throughout the year will range from immediate help to long-term upside that could deliver consistent production for the future. Also, knowing when to trade away players at or near their peak is valuable to always infusing your roster with up-and-coming talent. So, let’s dive right in and let me help you by suggesting the players that you’d be wise to buy and sell in Dynasty this week.

Buy

De’Von Achane

Coming into the season, De’Von Achane was one of the hottest names in the Dynasty Fantasy Football community for his jaw-dropping plays and potential for a larger role this season. He started well, but once quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed time with a concussion, Achane’s production fell off. But as Tagovailoa returned last week, he breathed some life into the Dolphins’ offense, greatly benefiting Achane. Now that Achane has an NFL-caliber starting quarterback under center, he’s back to elite fantasy production. Last week, Achane had ten carries for 97 rushing yards while adding six receptions on eight targets for 50 yards and a touchdown, finishing the week as RB3 (Full-PPR). In the three games with Tagovailoa under center, Achane has been the RB7 (Full-PPR) or better, and without him, Achane has not finished higher than RB25.

If you believe that Tagovailoa can stay healthy for the rest of the season, then Achane is an easy buy, as his receiving and overall numbers are drastically improved with Tagovailoa under center. The 23-year-old Achane is currently listed as the RB7 on KeepTradeCut (KTC), but this represents a good time to buy him as he will have solid production for the rest of this season and going forward in the dynamic Dolphins rushing attack. Achane is also in the second year of his rookie contract, so he has at least a few more years left with the Dolphins, making his value in this offense attractive as he operates as the top running back. I would buy Achane now that the Dolphins have their quarterback back in the fold, as Achane’s dynamic playmaking ability will help your team on your championship push now and for many future years to come.

Cedric Tillman

Dynasty Fantasy Football is based on two items: talent and opportunity. Tillman has the talent, and then, with the trade of Amari Cooper to the Bills, Tillman now has the opportunity. The third-round pick (74th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft from the University of Tennessee was pushed into the starting “X” receiver role the past two weeks, and he’s quickly shown what he can do. In Week 7, he finished as the WR14 (Full-PPR) with eight catches on twelve targets. Then, in Week 8, he stepped up his performance even more, finishing as the WR3 with seven catches on nine targets for 99 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winning catch for 38 yards that put the Browns ahead of the Ravens late in the game. With gunslinger Jameis Winston taking over for Deshaun Watson, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, the passing attack and offense have opened up the past few weeks. All Browns players figure to improve their Dynasty Fantasy Football stock. But in Week 8, Tillman led the team in air yards with 159 while commanding a 21.95% target share.

Tillman was a sleeper coming out of the 2023 NFL Draft, and it seems like with this opportunity, he’s breaking out in the past two weeks since he’s been in a starting role as he leads the Browns in target share (24%) and air yards share (38%). He’s one of the hottest names rising the Dynasty ranks, and now is the time to buy Tillman before his value skyrockets even further. He’s the perfect buy-low player right now. Tillman is currently listed as the WR71 on KeepTradeCut (KTC). He’s risen over one hundred spots on their overall player rating tool. He’s a deep sleeper, but he’s shown what he can do and has produced with his opportunity.

Tillman’s also in the second year of his rookie contract, so if Winston is the future quarterback or the Browns can secure their future quarterback, his role in the offense as the number one receiver will be very valuable. Now he has the chance to prove to the Browns that he can continue to be their number one receiver, and if he does this by continuing to play well, his Dynasty value will take a large boost. So whether you’re a rebuilding or contending Dynasty Fantasy Football manager, now is the time to buy Tillman. If his success continues, the window will be closing fast to acquire one of the up-and-coming receivers for a dirt-cheap price tag.

Sell

Kareem Hunt

While there hasn’t been any concrete news on the return of Isiah Pacheco, it’s coming at some point this season. And as well as Kareem Hunt has played, the 29-year-old runner is nowhere near as good as Pacheco, and his days as the starter are numbered. Hunt this past Sunday finished as the RB22 (Full-PPR), but he’s previously had some bigger games. Primarily in Week 5, Hunt rumbled his way to 27 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown while adding one reception on one target for 15 yards as he ended the week as the RB4 (Full-PPR). Then, in Week 7, Hunt had t22 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns while adding two catches on three targets for five yards as he ended the week as RB11 (Full-PPR). Hunt has produced, but Pacheco is expected to reclaim his starting job when he is healthy. Hunt figures to primarily be Pacheco’s handcuff, and he most likely will be the passing-down or third-down back. However, with the Chiefs currently undefeated at this point of the year, they may take their time getting Pacheco healthy, so I would take the next few weeks to proactively look to trade Hunt.

I would look to sell Hunt to a Dynasty Fantasy Football Manager in need of immediate help at running back. Hunt is currently listed as the RB46 on KeepTradeCut (KTC), but his production this year filling in for one of the top fantasy football players from last season has been pretty solid. Even though he’s had a few less productive weeks for a player the Chiefs picked up off the streets, it was a pretty good signing, as he’s also had a few boom weeks. I’d also look to sell Hunt as he’s an older running back, and he’s on a one-year deal with an uncertain future past this season. So, look to sell Hunt before it’s too late to another contending Dynasty manager who believes in his future role for the rest of this season within the Chiefs offense.

Cade Otton

With both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin getting hurt during Week 7, this past week, Cade Otton acted as the safety net for quarterback Baker Mayfield and savior in the passing game that the Buccaneers needed. While at first, it wasn’t clear where all those targets would go, we quickly learned Otton would be heavily relied upon as he finished as the TE1 with 24.80 fantasy points (Full-PPR) with nine receptions on ten targets for 81 yards and two touchdowns. It’s important to note that Otton flourished in the red zone. This is another sell-high opportunity as in a few more weeks, Mike Evans is expected to return after the Buccaneers’ bye week in Week 12, and at that point, I expect him to take back a large percentage of the target share. I also expect other wide receivers on the team to step up and help replace Godwin, primarily Jalen McMillan, Trey Palmer, and Sterling Shepard. Once Evans is back, Otton should still have value, but right now, for the next few games, there’s a sell-high opportunity for someone in desperate need at the tight end position.

Baker Mayfield has been one of the NFL’s top passing quarterbacks, and the Buccaneers offense likes to air things out, making Otton even more appealing. While he’s not the most athletic tight end, he’s a sure pass catcher and safety net for the QB2 (Full-PPR) in Mayfield this year. Otton is currently listed as the TE14 on KeepTradeCut (KTC), and his stock has risen over the last few weeks by ninety spots on their overall player rating tool. I’m sure that for the rest of the season, other Dynasty Fantasy Football managers will view Otton as a top-five tight end ROS and would be willing to pay up for him, especially with hopes of winning now. So sell Otton now before it becomes too late.

Conclusion

As the football season quickly moves along, don’t let your league catch you sleeping, as it’ll cost you in the standings. Buy and sell these players now to build your long-lasting championship-caliber Dynasty Fantasy Football roster.
