Dynasty Football: Home Run Derby Rookie Buys

You are better off buying these six rookies now if you have them on your radar. If you don’t trade for these assets ASAP, good odds these players disappear from your radar at a price you could pay under the current trade market.

Get ahead of these players’ possible value and don’t be afraid to trade current guys that will not pay for your target tomorrow. There are many reasons why getting ahead of value is a key element for me. You can risk a slight overpay now, with the intention of it being an underpay, come tomorrow. It’s one of my favorite moves when I find the opportunity to get ahead of a player’s value. We are looking at guys on our roster that would work for other teams’ rosters. We are trading and adding in players who are the other teams’ backups to their starters. Back-up quarterbacks, and the same as a handcuff running back, as long as it’s not too much value and gives room for profit as throw-ins. If it makes money, it makes cents. Because we are in the business of profiting. See what I did there.

We are paying for what we want, but we are paying less than what we are projecting for upcoming weeks’ stock market prices to rise. Our job duties in this fantasy industry are to predict the likely outcome. To be a good fantasy genie, and predict the future, we need to hit with perfect timing for that value exceeding player. This is a way of gaining value. You can find me many times on any given day rubbing my Fantasy genie crystal ball in an attempt to look ahead. I’m a bit aggressive when at bat. I have no shame swinging at the first pitch. Just like any aggressive power hitter, you’re going to miss sometimes. But the focus is on swinging for the fence. Any home run is nice, but it’s the grand slams that feel the best. So choke up, and let’s aim for your favorite flyers. We are trading for a home run to be, waiting to trot the bases. So here Fantasybuff goes. Welcome to my very own little fantasy football, Homerun Derby. We are aiming for the seats in the stands and belting moonshots dead center field. The deepest part of the yard. Let’s get into it, FantasyBuffs home run derby youngins.

Braelon Allen (RB – NYJ)

Dude is young, but so far, so productive and efficient. Catching the ball was a scout knock. Boy, Allen sure has his way of making the scouting reports look like fire kindlings. He has eaten a portion of Breece Hall’s volume and his talent has capped the value of the superstar that Hall is. Braelon Allen’s production appears substantial. With Breece Hall and Allen, since Week 2 Breece has averaged 16.3 touches per game compared to Allen’s 9.5 per game. The gamble here is what the incoming head coach does. Do we see this split backfield end in favor of Hall? Or do we continue to see a split? Allen’s talent has already been released from NY’s Pandora’s Box. This guy is fantastic as a large guy between the tackles. Hackett is still in NY. Is it him, or was it Silas who determined the split committee? Something to keep an eye on.

Tyrone Tracy (RB – NYG)

Could be the backup to own if you’re looking for someone to overtake the current starter. That is NYG rookie RB Tyrone Tracy. If Tracy’s performance of week 5 becomes a trend for Tyrone, how do you not give him more work? Our eyes see an explosive player in him, but the stats support that explosion also. There is no excuse for Malik Nabers’ being there to take pressure off of him. I enjoyed watching Tracy. He showed the IT factor. As of now, Tyrone Tracy is my top backup if you’re aiming for someone to end up being the starter. No way it’s not in the minds of the Giants front office. Tracy has planted seeds in their noggins.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler (QB – NO)

Their biggest knock is his size and his maturity. We need to see steps from him as a professional than the maturity showed in college. He’s mobile and has a rushing upside as a QB. The Saints like his big arm and play-making ability. Far as any backup QB, looking for a chance, being behind Derek Carr could present a good opportunity. The young rookie is getting the call-up. Rattler showed stuff in his tape that makes him a great fit for this offense. His arm strength makes him someone to keep an eye out for. If you can get your hands on Rattler for respectively cheap. He’s a flyer that could be worth your wild.

Theo Johnson (TE – NYG)

My #2 rookie TE on this list, and my second NYG. He saw opportunities last week with NY missing Malik Nabers. He proved to QB Daniel Jones he could be dependable as he displayed the best game of his young career so far. Theo caught all five of his targets when called upon for 48 yards against the Seahawks. He finished Week 5 third in targets, receptions, and receiving yards for the Giants. His first quarter of the season as the starting TE kept him from the fantasy radar. But managers who recognize his Week 5 performance, are keeping our sites on him to see if chemistry is further developed between him and QB Daniel Jones. So if you have the itch in you to acquire Theo Johnson this could be your golden opportunity to do so.

Erick All Jr. (TE – CIN)

Now, this is my #1 TE on this list. All have my eyes going googling. Sit down now. Let’s be honest, as of yet Brock Bowers is the reason we are not calling him the top tight end from this class. All does have an act for QB Joe Burrows’ eyes. And that’s a person’s eyes you want on you. All have put together some games that show glimpses of what he could do. However, nothing like I think he will do. I honestly expect any week now, and will not be surprised when Erick All has a true breakout game. He is such a sick addition to what Cincinnati already has to operate with on offense. When Erick All is truly unleashed, good luck trying to double-team this talented tight end. I see the sky is the limit for Erick All. I paid an early projected second-round pick in a 14-team TEP league for him. I want to add that, I for one do not take my draft picks lightly. Truly I feel I next to stole him at that price. He has looked good and I don’t think he has bloomed yet. Get him while you can at his current price. Don’t wait around to where you can’t afford him. He is a prime example of getting ahead of the value acquiring. He’s a legit talent whose only injury held him back in college.

Bucky Irving (RB – TB)

In week 5 he didn’t make such a splash and was underwhelming. He struggled to come up big on Thursday Night Football in Atlanta against the Falcons. He lost a fumble on his 11 touches to total 56 yards. As Starting RB Rachaad White put together a serviceable box score rushing for 72 yards on 10 attempts. Things do look up for Bucky as the Bucs keep giving him opportunities. It is yet to be known if White will emerge as the clear-cut RB1 in Tampa since the emergence of an efficient Bucky Irving. Betting on Bucky could easily pay off, hugely.
