DFS Week 3 Recap

Another week of football, another week of craziness! When the top five scoring running backs consist of Najee Harris, Kareem Hunt, Peyton Barber, Alexander Mattison, and James Robinson, up you know it was a crazy week! With that being said, let’s see how my weekly DFS picks played out!

QUARTERBACKS

To start off, let’s look at how my quarterback ‘love’ picks performed this weekend. Of my seven selected top play options, four of them out-performed projections and three met standards. Tom Brady, Justin Herbert, and Kirk Cousins all scored over 28 points while Ryan Tannehill also produced a solid 23 points. My favorite play, Tom Brady, continued his elite play this week and was the 3rd highest scoring quarterback.

For my ‘like’ picks of the week, the three players I chose, Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Ryan, and Daniel Jones, all produced at an average rate and finished middle of the pack amongst quarterbacks. This week I also chose to completely fade a popular player, Justin Fields. That choice was smart, as the Bears struggled to get anything going on offense, only going for a team total of 47 yards.

RUNNING BACKS

Next, let’s evaluate the running back plays of the week. For my ‘love’ picks I chose to go heavy with mid-priced options as that area was rich in value. My top picks, Austin Ekeler, Saquon Barkley, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Chris Carson all provided value as they provided over 15 DK points each.

For my ‘like’ running back plays on Sunday I chose Alexander Mattison before Dalvin Cook was officially ruled out, and he would have been a ‘love’ play if Dalvin was ruled out earlier. Mattison ended up being the fourth highest-scoring option, topping 26 points.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Now let’s dig into our wide receiver picks for the week. In a deep pool of options, I chose players who have proven to outperform expectations. Cooper Kupp and Mike Williams are two players I have been high on all off-season and both continued their historic starts to the year by topping 30 DK points each. Two other highlighted players, Adam Thielen and Tyler Lockett were outscored by their teammates, but Cousins was able to facilitate Thielen enough for him to score a solid 17 points. As for Tyler Lockett, he failed to live up to his price by scoring a mere 7 points.

For my ‘like’ receivers of the week, I chose to highlight seven different guys. Clearly, I have trouble narrowing down guys, but I personally like having a wide range of targets to limit a complete ‘bust’ week. Justin Jefferson was the top option for my ‘like’ options as he scored 29.8 DK points, which were good enough for WR3.

TIGHT ENDS

Lastly, my coverage of tight-ends. For a position that is typically top-heavy, Travis Kelce proved his worth as he was the highest-scoring tight-end. Darren Waller again failed us as he underperformed, scoring a lackadaisical 10 DK points. Other players who were highlighted this week consisted of Rob Gronkowski and Kyle Pitts. Both players let us down and scored less than their projected amounts.

To conclude, never consider a player a “lock” for your lineup. To avoid having down weeks in DFS, consider a wide range of players and don’t overload all on one player. Also, injuries happen. Players bound for big weeks can end up not producing because of in-game injuries. That is the nature of sports betting. If it were easy everyone would do it.
