Another week of football, another week of craziness! Teams like the Dolphins put up goose eggs, Saints downgraded from an efficient week one to a disappointing week two, and the Chargers and Cowboys games were less than extravagant. With that being said, let’s see how my weekly DFS picks played out!
QUARTERBACKS
To start off, let’s look at how my quarterback ‘love’ picks performed this weekend. Of my five selected top play options, three of them out-performed projections, one met, and one completely flopped. Kyler Murray was this week’s top performer of the group, then following him were Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. All three scored over 25 DK points and were top four at the position for the main slate. My favorite play, Dak Prescott, proved to disappoint heavily as he only produced a mere 8 DK points. This performance was highly unexpected and the Cowboys struggled to perform offensively all day.
For my ‘like’ picks of the week, I chose four players. Those players consisted of Jalen Hurts, Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill, and Tyrod Taylor. All four players produced at an average rate and finished middle of the pack amongst quarterbacks.
RUNNING BACKS
Next, let’s evaluate the running back plays of the week. For my ‘love’ picks I choose Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Ezekiel Elliott, David Montgomery, and Melvin Gordon. Of those players, Derrick Henry absolutely dominated and would have most definitely won you some money. After that, McCaffrey showcased his safe floor, producing 24 DK points which were good for the third highest-scoring running back. He was then succeeded by Dalvin Cook at 19, Ezekiel Elliott at 17, Nick Chubb at 16, David Montgomery at 10, and Melvin Gordon at 9.
For my ‘like’ running back plays of the day I choose Alvin Kamara, Austin Ekeler, Najee Harris, Elijah Mitchell, Kareem Hunt, Javonte Williams, Ronald Jones, and Nyheim Hines. Of this group, Ekeler was the highest scoring option, topping 22 points. He was followed in scoring by Najee at 19 points, Javonte Williams at 8 points, Elijah Mitchell at 7, Alvin Kamara at 7, Kareem Hunt at 6, Ronald Jones at 4, and Nyheim Hines at 3. Clearly, a lot of disappointing performances for guys in good matchups. My biggest letdown personally was Kamara. In a game with an implied total of 54 points, the Saints’ offense failed to register a touchdown.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Now let’s dig into our wide receiver picks for the week. In a deep pool of options, I chose eleven different top receiver options. Cooper Kupp is someone I have been high on all off-season. He continued his great start to the year by topping all receivers at nearly 40 points. Then, in a game I was excited about, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen both excelled scoring 22 and 17 points respectively. CeeDee Lamb, who was on the opposite side of the two previously stated receivers, scored a solid 17 points. His teammate, Amari Cooper, failed to live up to his price by scoring a mere 7 points. The top receiver on the slate, DeAndre Hopkins, was out-targeted by the new Cardinals’ weapon, Rondale Moore. This is slightly concerning as this high-powered offense may have too many mouths to feed. Other let-downs this week consisted of A.J. Brown, Corey Davis, and Antonio Brown.
For my ‘like’ receivers of the week, I chose to highlight thirteen different guys. Clearly, I have trouble narrowing down guys. However, I personally like having a wide range of targets in order to limit a complete ‘bust’ week. Of players in this range, Tyler Lockett, Mike Evans, Julio Jones, K.J. Osborn, Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tim Patrick put up great to solid numbers. Tyler Lockett was very impressive, as he proved to be a favorite target for Russell Wilson on Sunday.
TIGHT ENDS
Lastly, my coverage of tight ends. For a position that is typically top-heavy, only one of my top targets hit. Rob Gronkowski looked like he was once again the best tight end in the league. Gronk had 4 receptions for 39 yards and 2 scores. If you chose to ride with him this week, you definitely were a satisfied owner. Darren Waller, the top-priced option this week due to Travis Kelce playing in the night game, underperformed for his price. Of the ‘like’ players, Noah Fant led the way for scoring and was the third-highest scorer for the week.
To conclude, never consider a player a “lock” for your lineup. Players like Amari Cooper, A.J. Brown, Dak Prescott, and Alvin Kamara are all incredible players. That being said, it doesn’t make them immune to underperforming. They’re human just like the rest of us. To avoid having down weeks in DFS, consider a wide range of players and don’t overload all on one player. Also, injuries happen. Players bound for big weeks can end up not producing because of in-game injuries. That is the nature of sports betting. If it were easy everyone would do it.
