The New England Patriots selected Devin Asiasi, Tight End, out of UCLA. He was the 91st pick in the third round and was the second tight end drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Asiasi is 6’3” and 257 pounds. He played three seasons in college with his first being at Michigan then transferring to UCLA for his final season. Asiasi will be 23 years old at the start of the 2020 NFL season. When he transferred to UCLA he was forced to sit out the 2017 season and played only his junior year with the Bruins.
As a junior, Asiasi put up good enough numbers to be awarded Honorable Mention in the Pac-12 conference. He grabbed 44 receptions, 641 yards, and four touchdowns.
Asiasi on film has some pretty solid skills. He looks like he can attack the field up the seam as a receiver and is quick with his footwork. He was able to gain 15.2 yards per catch throughout his time in college. Asiasi has a good football IQ and has been able to make noise by finding the holes in the zone and settling into those spaces for easy catches.

Asiasi goes to the New England Patriots who have been starved for a tight end since the departure of Rob Gronkowski. Brady only targeted tight ends on 9% of his passes last season, but they were led by a very underwhelming Matt LaCosse. It appears to be the Jared Stidham era now in New England, and Asiasi has little to no competition for targets from the tight end position Asiasi lands in a great spot for him to develop alongside a young quarterback and a young receiver in N’Keal Harry. We will have to wait and see how Stidham develops as a quarterback, but he may find some comfort in shorter passes to his new tight end.
Asiasi seems like the type of player that could very well become a decent fantasy option in dynasty. I recommend using a late dynasty rookie draft pick on Asiasi as he landed in an ideal place for development in New England. He has the potential to contribute fairly quickly on offense.
