A Rocky Road in 2023
The 2023 season proved to be a tough one for Raheim Sanders, marked by persistent injuries that limited his playing time. According to 247Sports, the junior running back only featured in six out of 12 games, leaving three of those prematurely due to injuries. With an average of 3.4 yards per carry, it was evident that Rocket was not performing at his peak, battling through physical setbacks.
Struggles Across the Board
The Razorbacks’ offensive struggles in 2023 added to Sanders’ challenges. The team ranked 107th in total offensive yardage per game, with a lackluster rushing attack averaging only 139.0 yards per game (ranked 90th) and a passing game that fared marginally better at 187.5 yards per game (ranked 106th), as reported by CBS Sports.
A closer look at the offensive line’s performance reveals a disheartening story. Allowing a staggering 47 sacks, the Razorbacks’ offensive line secured the fifth-worst position in the nation. Additionally, they allowed 66 tackles for loss, totaling 461 yards. These stats, reported by NCAA.com, underscore the struggles the team faced in providing a conducive environment for offensive success.
Brighter Days Ahead?
Despite the challenging circumstances, the takeaway from Sanders’ tumultuous 2023 season should be the potential he possesses as a football player. A change in offensive environment and a fresh opportunity might just be what Rocket needs to return to his 2022 form when he had a breakout season, amassing an impressive 1,443 yards. As a fan, it’s disappointing to see such a talented running back leave the Razorbacks, but there’s excitement in anticipating his next destination and witnessing him remind everyone why he was a force to be reckoned with before the forgettable 2023 season.
