AFC North Factory Divisional Nuggets: Week 4

This series will attempt to bring clarity to the goings-on both on and off the field within each NFL Division so that dynasty owners can make the important roster decisions during the NFL season to help them build toward their championships. Our writers will be grinding the tape and keeping up with the media buzz surrounding players, coaches and front office decision making so that they can keep you equipped with the “nuggets” you need to succeed.

The Waiver Wire: Week 5

Concussions seemed to be the injury du jour this week. Jarvis Landry and T.J. Hockenson were both unable to finish their games on Sunday after suffering one. After last week’s relatively quiet week on the quarterback injury front, Mitchell Trubisky was lost to a shoulder (left) injury and Josh Allen went down with a concussion. Besides the regular waiver wire recommendations, I’ll sprinkle in some dynasty advice this week, to spice things up a bit. Bye weeks also continue with two more teams off in week five, the Lions and Dolphins.

Divisional Nuggets: NFC North Week 3 Update

Allen Robinson, WRHe’s the best option in the passing game. Trubisky stares him down on plenty of plays. He’s averaging nine targets per game, good for 26.5% target share. Nobody else on the team is above 20%. Taylor Gabriel is outscoring Robinson for the year, largely because he’s probably caught 60% of his yearly touchdowns vs the Redskins. Even with the great Gabriel performance, Robinson commands 38% of the team’s air yards. It’s only a matter of time before Robinson starts to find the end zone and breaks out. If somebody is just box score scouting, I’d offer a late first pretty easily for him. He’s just entering his athletic prime, more than a year removed from the ACL tear, and getting awesome volume. Gobble up those shares.

Dynasty Outlook: James Washington

Okay. We get it. We’ve been hearing about it for the past week. We know. We know James Washington and Mason Rudolph played together for four years in college (2014-2017) and put up some pretty impressive numbers at Oklahoma State. We’ve been waiting all week, ever since Ben Roethlisberger went down with a season-ending elbow injury, to see if this former college connection would translate at all to fantasy success. This weekend, we got our first look at the new tandem on the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

The Waiver Wire: Week Four

We’re moving into the fourth week of the season, and fantasy football is in full swing. That means it’s time to start digging deep into your league’s waiver wires. Bye weeks begin with San Francisco and the New York Jets taking the week off. We had no quarterback injuries this week, but Saquon Barkley did go down to an ankle injury. Outside of that, this week was mercifully injury-free for fantasy assets. That leaves less obvious options on the wire. Ownership on the below players varies depending on your league size and owner’s skill level.

Dynasty Outlook: Marquise Brown

Film matters. Analytics matter. College production matters. Draft capital and landing spot matter. The debate about which variable is most important or best at predicting future NFL and fantasy success will rage on. However, at the intersection of every variable we use and every lens through which we look to evaluate a prospect sits an individual, unique player. It doesn’t matter how predictive we think our research is. At the end of the day, a rookie and his coaching staff still have to go out and get the job done. When evaluating the long term dynasty potential of a rookie wide receiver, we have to work with what we have. Anyone who tells you they have all the answers is selling you something. However, certain historical trends, film analysis, and other variables can give us a glimpse into what is possible. As I attempt to breakdown the dynasty outlook of Marquise Brown, keep a few things in mind: we only know what we know. He has extremely limited professional experience and much of what will be covered is speculation that is, however, rooted in research. Will he do enough to provide fantasy relevance this year or in the future?

AFC North Factory Divisional Nuggets: Week 2

“Not bad for a running back”. That post-game quote from Lamar Jackson summed up the Ravens’ decimation of the Dolphins in Week 1. The new-look Ravens offense hung 59 points on the hapless Fins (42 by halftime) which afforded Lamar Jackson an early exit during the fourth quarter. After winning the division by finishing the 2018 season on a 6-1 record with Jackson at QB, the Ravens essentially rebuilt their offense around their new signal-caller. They drafted two wide receivers and a running back, brought over veteran free agent Mark Ingram, and turned the keys over to Lamar Jackson. The early returns look promising.

No Mason Around: Rudolph takes over for the injured Big Ben

With news of Ben Roethlisberger being done for the season with an elbow injury, likely requiring Tommy John surgery how does that affect the Steelers fantasy assets. Before we go into what this means for young Mason Rudolph, we are best served to look at when we can reasonably expect Roethlisberger to be out for, and if we can expect him to return to pre-injury form or not.

Dynasty Stat Takeaways Through Two Weeks

Every couple of weeks I’ll take a look at various stats to try to determine if any trends stand out. These trends could relate to specific players or situations. I’ll be looking at targets, snap shares, and airyards among other metrics to help formulate opinions on players and how you as a dynasty player should be interpreting this data. This week I’m reviewing a couple of rookie running backs, Todd Gurley, a second-year wide receiver breakout and the Green Bay Packers WR2 competition.

Week two brought even more injuries and more players that stepped up, taking advantage of the opportunities those injuries provided. There were also a couple of players who came out of nowhere to have breakouts in week two that need to be on your radar. As always I dig through the game tape and game stats to find some hidden gems for your dynasty rosters.
