Welcome back for part two of this two-part series, where we’ll be covering the five biggest fallers in Dynasty value over the past 30 days, according to KeepTradeCut. If you missed part one, discussing the biggest risers, you can check that article out here. We’ve already received tons of news on players and depth charts as training camp is underway, resulting in some fluctuation in Dynasty value and potential NFL lines so be sure to visit the Ohio Sportsbook. Below, I’ll explain why the market has cooled on each of these five players and then discuss whether I believe the value change is warranted.
Biggest Fallers
5. Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAX)
Trevor Lawrence has had a rough start to training camp this season, playing and simple. Lawrence threw three interceptions through the first two days, completing just 57% of his passes. He had a better session on Friday, going 11-15 passing without throwing an interception. But the Dynasty market appears apprehensive about Jacksonville’s franchise quarterback.
I get the concern. Lawrence is already three years in and has yet to hit 18.0 FPPG or finish above QB12 overall from a FPPG perspective. He took a step back in Year 3, and if he disappoints again in Year 4, his Dynasty value likely drops significantly. I’m not concerned with the poor camp news and am still a believer in Lawrence. He didn’t get any help from his offensive line last year; I expect some improvement in 2024.
4. Chase Claypool (WR – BUF)
Chase Claypool joins his fourth NFL team in as many years, failing to build on his promising rookie season, during which he finished as a Top-24 WR. Claypool has been virtually irrelevant since his Chicago days. At this point in his career, he is borderline droppable in Dynasty, even in deeper leagues.
Claypool gained some value after signing with Buffalo this offseason, given the lack of competition and the fact he’ll be playing alongside Josh Allen. However, his recent drop in value appears to be due to his injury scare on Day 1 of training camp when he limped off the field with an apparent leg injury and didn’t come back. Reports have since come out saying Claypool is doing fine and has avoided injury, so I expect him to regain some value again. I’m not buying any shares, but I’m sure someone out there will.
3. Kendre Miller (RB – NO)
The injury troubles continue for Year 2 running back Kendre Miller. On Day 1 of training camp, Miller left the field early due to a hamstring injury. He remained on the sidelines the rest of the week, and HC Dennis Allen was quoted as saying Miller “needs to figure out how to stay healthy because you can’t make the team when you’re always in the training room”, according to an article by NFL journalist Jaleel Grandberry.
I never fully understood the Kendre Miller hype myself. It seemed like the only case for Miller was that he had a clear path to a bunch of touches soon, with Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams nearing the end of their careers. While vacated touches are more of a real thing for RBs than they are for WRs, you still have to be trusted by your coaching staff to get those touches. And it appears Miller may even be a cut candidate. I have zero shares of Kendre in my Dynasty leagues, and I don’t foresee that changing any time soon.
2. Jordan Addison (WR – MIN)
When are these young kids going to learn their lesson? It feels like Addison and Rashee Rice are doing everything in their power to sabotage their NFL careers. For those unaware, Addison was arrested in July for a DUI, this coming a year after being cited for reckless driving, where Addison was clocked driving 140 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Addison at least admitted his mistake, and the Minnesota locker room appears to be backing him, so this may just be a small hurdle to overcome in the grand scheme of things. We don’t know whether the NFL will step in and issue disciplinary actions on Addison, but if they do, it would only be a few games; nothing that should affect his Dynasty value. The market is mainly concerned about this potentially being a pattern of reckless behavior, which is understandable.
Addison is ranked as the Dynasty WR30 on KTC, which feels fine to me. If your league mates are panicking over this incident, I’d be okay with buying some shares for cheap.
1. C.J. Stroud (QB – HOU)
Stroud’s drop in Dynasty value came after news of a potential foot injury on Saturday, July 27th. According to Cole Thompson of Sports Illustrated, Stroud was trying to escape pressure and was run over by a teammate. Stroud was seen limping off the field; he returned later and completed some drills but was still walking with a limp. HC DeMeco Ryans assured the media there’s nothing to worry about, and Stroud is completely fine.
I wouldn’t sweat if Stroud missed some time in training camp due to this incident. Houston will err on the side of being overly safe with their franchise quarterback. There’s no reason to throw him out there before the season if he’s not 100%. And as far as Dynasty value, this news should have absolutely no impact. While Stroud has dropped in KTC points, he’s still listed as the QB3 overall, which I feel is fair.
