Top Free Agent Interior Defensive Linemen

Chris Jones is not only the top prize free agent interior defensive lineman but he is one of the top 10 overall defensive free agents. At age 25 he is among the youngest free agents but there are quite a few in this group. However, none of them are as talented or have the impact that Jones has had. Then when you consider that IDL is a highly coveted position by NFL teams, it takes his value to another level.

Top Free Agent Edge Rushers

At age 27, Clowney will be entering his eighth season in the league. Up to this point, there have been mixed results from the freakish athlete. Injuries have been an issue throughout his career, as he’s only played all sixteen games in a season just once. However, there is no doubt the impact he can have on the field when healthy.

IDL Prospect Draft Watch

With the college bowl season in full swing and I continue to dig deep into my draft prep, I thought I would take the time to go over some of the potential prospects at the interior defensive line position. This is one of the most crucial but unpraised positions in football. They do the heavy lifting to open things up for the rest of the defense. Keep in mind, this is just who I have watched to this point so far. As I watch more game film and prospects, I will update this list accordingly.

Early Signing Period Signees: Tennessee Vols

Just a week and a half ago was the early signing period in college football for players who had made up their minds on where they wanted to continue their academic and athletic careers, ready to sign their National Letter of Intent. The Vols’ start to the early signing period set the pace for the rest of the day. Most of the early signees were players that had been committed to their respective schools for months, making it known over social media that their recruitment process was completely shutdown.

IDP Rookie Recap Year-End

Before the season started I pegged Bush as my favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He started the season like he was shot out of a rocket, but seemed to slow or hit the rookie wall in the second half. He still made this list on a weekly basis and ended up as one of the top rookies for 2019.

IDP Devy: Yetur Gross-Matos

Yetur has very good size and length. His length and reach provide for an extended tackle radius, that allows him to routinely make tackles others can’t. These same attributes also allow him to set the edge effectively. He is one of the more athletic prospects in this class and has good handwork, with swipes, swats, and rips. Gross-Matos does a real good job of translating speed to power, along with his high motor, he gets upfield quickly and applies instant pressure.
