Ashton Jeanty | Boise State 5’8 ½” 211 lbs. 12/02/2003 (21)
Ashton Jeanty was drafted sixth overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, becoming the first running back and sixth overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Year | Games Played | Attempts | Yards | Yards/Attempt | TDs |
2022 (FR) | 14 | 156 | 821 | 5.3 | 7 |
2023 (SO) | 12 | 220 | 1,347 | 6.1 | 14 |
2024 (SR) | 14 | 374 | 2,601 | 7.0 | 29 |
Coming into his Freshman season, Jeanty wasn’t expected to be this stellar running back prospect. He was a four-star recruit ranked 29th at his position. In 2022, he turned some heads, producing 821 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Then, he started to dominate the collegiate level as a Sophomore in 2023. Jeanty earned Second-Team AP All-American and Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors, as he turned 220 carries into 1,347 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. His 159.7 scrimmage yards per game led the entire FBS. Although he put together a stellar season, it wasn’t until 2024 that the entire world watched a star turn into a “can’t miss” prospect. His 2024 season will go down as one of the best running back seasons of all time! He fell 28 yards short of Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record set back in 1988. Jeanty led the FBS in rushing yards (2,601), yards per carry (7.0), and all-purpose yards (2,750), and finished second in rushing touchdowns (29). He earned First-team AP All-American, Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, and First-Team All-MWC honors. Jeanty finished as the Doak Walker Award Winner (the Nation’s top RB). He also finished second in the voting for the Heisman.
STRENGTHS
Tendency to turn nothing into something nearly every play. Showcases instant burst and speed through the line of scrimmage. Breaks tackles with ease, showcasing stellar contact balance and power while maintaining momentum through traffic. Consistently wins on outside zone run schemes and beats nearly every defender in a foot race. Plays fast and maintains his speed through cuts and changes of direction. Elite vision, showing both patience and tremendous acceleration. Displays solid pad level on nearly every opportunity. Also showcases soft, reliable hands out of the backfield.
WEAKNESSES
Slightly undersized at the running back position. Occasionally lacks in ball security. Not the most talented route-runner. Unreliable pass-protector who doesn’t show great posture and frame when taking on blitz packages. Heavy usage may cause durability issues, as with the pro level.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At the NFL Combine, Jeanty measured in at 5’8 ½” and 211 lbs, which equates to a BMI of 32.1. He did not participate in any athletic testing drills at either the combine or his pro day. He finished his collegiate career with a college dominator score of 43.7 percent (96th percentile).
DRAFT ANALYSIS
Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent
Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Excellent
Jeanty was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.
The new-look Raiders add a star running back to go along with Geno Smith behind the line of scrimmage. Las Vegas finished last in the league in rushing yards a season ago. The combination of Alexander Mattison and Zamir White was a complete disaster. Jeanty will come in right away and serve as this team’s bellcow. Expect a ton of production with more than enough opportunities throughout this next season. Because of the landing spot, Jeanty could become one of the top dynasty running backs for years to come.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Jeanty received an early first-round grade from me before the draft, and I had him as the top-ranked running back prospect in this year’s draft.
In your rookie drafts, Jeanty is widely viewed as the top pick and may slip to second overall in Superflex leagues. For those of you who need a quarterback and own the first pick in your drafts, you may want to second-guess that and either select Jeanty or trade back with someone and add more value to your team. This guy is going to be a star!
