Josh Palmer was drafted 77th overall by the Los Angeles Chargers, becoming the 11th wide receiver and 77th overall player in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Although Palmer didn’t produce terrific college numbers, he showed consistency at the wide receiver position. He showed glimpses of great talent at times, and he finished his college career with 99 receptions, 1,514 yards, and seven touchdowns in 42 career games. Other than his freshman season, Palmer produced decent numbers, eclipsing the 450 receiving mark three seasons in a row.
STRENGTHS
Palmer comes out of his routes quickly, and he runs with tightness and physicality. He shows great ball-tracking skills and terrific body control. The Tennessee product works to maintain field leverage, and he has a good frame at the receiver position. He also catches contested passes at a consistent rate.
WEAKNESSES
Palmer didn’t produce outstanding numbers during his college career. He only has one 100-plus receiving game under his belt, and he comes off the line of scrimmage at a slower rate. His run-after-acceleration speed is less than ideal, and he doesn’t have a great deep route.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At his Tennessee Pro Day, Palmer measured in at 6’1” and 210 lbs. Which equates to a BMI of 27.7. He ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, equating to a 101.52-Speed Score, and at 6’1” that is a 102.02-Height Adjusted Speed Score. Both scores place him in the 67th percentile or higher. He doesn’t show elite athleticism as he recorded a 34” vertical jump, 124” broad jump, and he ran the short shuttle in 4.25 seconds and the three-cone in 6.98 seconds.

FANTASY INSIGHTS
With where he was drafted, Palmer should serve as his team’s WR3/4. He’s a top-20 wide receiver in this draft class, but Palmer is not an ideal dynasty receiver. He joins a receiving group that already has Keenan Allen, Mike Willimas, and Jalen Guyton. Although he could turn into one with a few seasons under his belt.
