RUNNING BACK, IOWA STATE, ELIGIBLE FOR 2022 NFL DRAFT
Breece Hall is a 6’1” and 215 lbs. four-star running back for the Iowa State Cyclones. He was ranked as the RB22 amongst the 2022 draft-eligible class, and the 339th overall prospect.
PAST PRODUCTION (COLLEGE STATS)
As a sophomore Hall took the next step and became dominant. With a workhorse-level workload, Hall rushed for 1,572 yards and 21 TDs. He also maintained his role out of the backfield with 23 catches for 180 yards and two TDs. He earned a 39% dominator rating and put up a very impressive 2.67 adjusted yards per team play.
2021 OUTLOOK/PERFORMANCE
Breece Hall will be back for his presumptive final college season next year, with starters Brock Purdy and Charlie Kolar returning as well. However, the offensive line suffered attrition losing Julian Good-Jones, Bryce Meeker, Josh Knipfel, and Collin Olson. Hall will likely have to create more yardage before contact with a less experienced offensive line.
Head Coach Matt Campbell recently signed an extension with Iowa State through the 2028 season. He has had incredible success recruiting and developing running backs in his system. In 2016, Campbell started his head coaching job with freshman David Montgomery. He has had a workhorse running back with NFL pedigree every season as Iowa State’s head coach. This means that Iowa State’s 2022 recruiting class will likely include a new workhorse back.
DEVY ANALYSIS
What’s the outlook for the next 3-5 years?
Hall will most likely not be a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft because he won’t test incredibly in his athletic traits. However, his production alone should land him a day two selection. This means that landing spot will be a key driver of Hall’s market value. It is more likely than not that Hall earns an NFL starting job by his second season.
Hall has not had any meaningful injuries in his collegiate career. His volume also projects well for injury prevention at the next level. A study on running back college workloads with volume as a key input. What the study found is that more volume does indicate a running back is more likely to be injured compared to lower volume backs.
Breece Hall will be drafted in the first-round of devy drafts, and he will be a shot of youth on fantasy rosters that are seeing their productive running back studs start to decline in value. Some of the players that have a similar build and athleticism to Hall are Melvin Gordon, Kenyan Drake, and Matt Forte.
