The Redraft Wire: Week 9

This weekly article is focused on identifying players who are owned in less than 40% of redraft leagues. These players are going to help your team win this week and every week to come! We are looking for guys you should be able to plug into your starting lineup without hesitation. Be sure to check out all of our in-season content right here.

(There will be no recommended FAAB spends in this article, as those decisions always depend on your team’s needs)

Kalen Ballage (RB – LAC)

Ownership: 6.95%

Ballage snuck his way back onto an NFL roster just when you thought he was done after being released by both the Dolphins and the Jets this year. He certainly made a statement in his return taking 15 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown. He scored 17.90 fantasy points and made a strong case to remain the lead back in Austin Ekeler’s absence.

Alex Smith (QB – WAS)

Ownership: 13.40

Kyle Allen suffered an ankle injury that would make you lose your lunch leaving Alex Smith as the starter for the Washington Football Team. Most people thought Smith would never touch an NFL field again yet he just threw for 300 yards for the first time since he suffered his life-threatening leg injury. Smith also threw three interceptions but should be a safe option in 2QB and Superflex leagues for the rest of the season.

Jakeem Grant (WR – MIA)

Ownership: 9.86%

Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Preston Williams, suffered a foot injury that will keep him out for an undisclosed amount of time. He has carted off the field which generally isn’t a could sign so we should prepare for the worst. Jakeem Grant is the next man in line on the Dolphins depth chart and saw his second-highest offensive snap count of the season. Grant caught four of five targets in the win over the Cardinals in Week 8 but should see much more work as long as Williams is sidelined.

Demarcus Robinson (WR – KC)

Ownership: 29.34%

Demarcus Robinson has scored 10+ fantasy points in three of the last four games. He has the advantage of playing on a team that has passed the ball 40+ times in over half of the games this season. While the bye week may give Sammy Watkins time to heal and return he’s a constant injury risk and Robinson should benefit from that for the foreseeable future.

Tyler Eifert (TE – JAC)

Ownership: 29.18%

Eifert struggled early on this year but may have found a connection with rookie quarterback Jake Luton. Gardner Minshew is missing some time with a hand injury giving Luton a chance to shine. Eifert caught four of five targets for 48 yards from Luton in Week 9 but has received five or more targets in four games this year and seven targets twice. Opportunity can be one of the most important ingredients in success for tight ends and Eifert has the talent to make the most of it.

LEAVE ON THE WIRE

Gabriel Davis (WR – BUF)

Ownership: 28.85%

Davis had a monster week against an awful Seattle Seahawks secondary but the production is likely unsustainable. He caught four of five targets for 70 yards and a touchdown, good for 17 fantasy points. While Davis looks great for a rookie and put up a nice stat line there are just too many mouths to feed on a regular basis for him to be fantasy relevant week to week. Leave him on the wire for someone else to waste their time on.
