Week 7 Thursday Night Storylines

Intro

Last week, I wrote a couple of articles breaking down the early and late games on the Week 6 slate. I picked one dynasty storyline from each contest, and I focused on that topic to give my readers something to watch for during the game. I thought it was a fun, light article, but I also believed it provided actionable and exciting information on those games.

Now, I want to take that idea a step further. I’ll give a complete dynasty breakdown of the upcoming Giants-Eagles Thursday night contest. I want to make sure you all know what to focus on for your dynasty teams. Being prepared before the game will allow you to react quickly and to become a better dynasty owner.

Giants

The Giants have been one of the poorest offenses thus far in 2020. I’ve often targeted them for my redraft D/ST streamers. They have no running game without Saquon Barkley, and Daniel Jones is one of the most turnover-prone quarterbacks in the NFL.

However, even though the Giants are an incompetent real-life offense, they have multiple relevant dynasty storylines. Tight end Evan Engram has been a massive disappointment thus far in 2020. On the bright side, he’s managed to remain healthy, something he’s never truly done in his career.

Unfortunately, Engram has 20 receptions on 35 targets for a measly 177 yards and no touchdowns through six games. At this point, I’ve dropped Engram to my dynasty TE10, well outside the top tier. If he doesn’t turn it around soon, he’s going to continue to fall. The NFL trade deadline is coming up soon, and if the Giants continue to misuse Engram, he could easily find himself with another club before the deadline.

Wide receiver Sterling Shepard might return from injured reserve for this game. I would like to see how Jones plays with Shepard on the field, as he needs another reliable receiving weapon. Golden Tate is thoroughly washed up, and Darius Slayton is only a deep threat. Either way, Jones needs to play better to keep this starting job long-term.

The Giants’ win over Washington last week placed them farther from selecting Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields in the 2021 NFL Draft. But, they can’t be sold on Jones based on his play so far in 2020. The Eagles’ secondary is banged-up and honestly is complete trash. If Jones can’t perform here, I’ll start to write him off as a long-term dynasty quarterback asset. He’s already fallen to my QB20 in dynasty leagues, but he has more room to decline.

Eagles

The Eagles’ offense has virtually zero healthy starters in this game. Miles Sanders, Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Jalen Reagor, and Alshon Jeffery will miss this game due to injuries. Therefore, I have little interest in the Eagles’ offensive weapons from a dynasty lens. Boston Scott will replace Miles Sanders as the Eagles’ lead back, but he flopped in that role in Week 1. Hopefully, he can do a bit more this time, but I’m not counting on it.

DeSean Jackson will return for this contest, although he has no dynasty value. The only player I’m genuinely watching of the Eagles’ receivers is Travis Fulgham. Fulgham came from nowhere, playing his first snaps in Week 4. Immediately, he saw a 60% snap share, jumping from irrelevance into a significant role while catching two of three targets for 57 yards.

However, in Week 5, Fulgham broke out. He caught 10 of 13 targets for 152 yards and a touchdown, playing as the Eagles’ clear lead receiving weapon. In Week 6, Fulgham had another strong game, with six receptions on 10 targets for 75 yards and a touchdown. I want to see if Fulgham is the real deal or if his role declines with Jackson back.

The Giants have a horrific defense, although top corner James Bradberry has played well this season. I’m curious whether the Giants will shadow Fulgham in coverage with Bradberry or if they will play sides with their CBs. Either way, my full attention will be on Fulgham, as I need to start to decide if he’s a long-term dynasty asset.
