Dynasty Sleeper of the Week: Javon Wims

With week one in the books, I am back to give you another player to keep in mind for your dynasty roster. This is not a waiver column. Each week I will try and bring you names off the beaten track that you can put on the end of your bench or just keep an eye on. Last week’s choice was Jakobi Meyers and while he went catch-less last week. The Patriots offense will continue to grow. Keep him on the watch list. This week I bring you another wide receiver no one is talking about and that is Javon Wims.

The Player

Javon Wims’ career so far has been nothing more than the smallest blip on the radar. He played in only four games as a rookie in 2018. In 2019 he played in all 16 games and started six. He had 18 receptions for 186 yards and 1 touchdown on 39 targets. In five games last season he totaled above 80% of the snap share. He is a developmental prospect and at 6’3 and 215 lbs, Wims has good size coupled with a good speed score according to Player Profiler which could potentially lead to more work.

2020 Opportunity and Future Outlook

Wims is currently owned in 3% of leagues according to myfantasyleague.com, making him not a priority. However, he is someone you should keep an eye on in the coming weeks. Wims came out of week one with a 35% snap rate which ranked him 4th on the team. He wasn’t far off from Ted Ginn and Anthony Miller who were at 43% and 42% respectively. He received two targets in week one, catching one ball for a TD in a comeback victory for the Bears. Mike Furrey, Chicago’s wide receiver coach, had high praise for Wims.

Furrey said, “He’s a guy now that can go to any position that we need him to. He can go in and serve as (Allen Robinson). He can go in and serve as (Anthony Miller), like when (Miller) went out (Sunday) for a little bit. He can play the Z position. And the cool thing right now is that he can play at all three of those positions at a high level. And I trust him. I think he’s just finally scratching that surface of where he could go in this league. We’re gonna keep him going. Obviously, really pleased where he’s at. Really proud of him, too, of how he’s developed not just physically, but really as we all knew, mentally.”

Furrey also added, “His arrow’s definitely pointing up. You get a big touchdown like that in a game, the first game of the season, that’s gonna do nothing but continue to boost his confidence.”

Wims is signed through the 2021 season and if the rumors are true and Allen Robinson does get moved or does not re-sign, it could give Wims a fast track to some nice fantasy viability. Nevertheless, he is an under the radar developmental receiver that I have no problem sitting on the end of my bench in deeper dynasty leagues.
