The Seattle Seahawks selected Colby Parkinson, Tight End, out of Stanford. He was the 133rd pick in the fourth round and was the ninth tight end drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Colby Parkinson is 6’7” and 252. He played three seasons at Stanford. Parkinson will be 22 years old at the beginning of the 2020 NFL Season. Parkinson did not have any notable injuries in his college career.
Parkinson’s last two years at Stanford were relatively productive. His sophomore year at Stanford he was able to bring in seven touchdowns and earned All Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention. His junior year was slightly less noteworthy picking up 48 catches for 589 yards with only one touchdown. This was good enough for him to get 2nd-team All Pac-12 accolades.
One of the most notable parts of Parkinson’s game is his size. Coming in at 6’7” and 252 pounds makes him a giant on the football field. Utilizing his size could be what separates him from others in his class. It is possible that Parkinson could carve out a nice mismatch role for himself and a potential red-zone threat. In watching his film it is noticeable that he is viewed much more as a pass-catching tight end than used for blocking. He has a nice first step off of the line of scrimmage and is split out wide a lot. He showed a good ability to get behind linebackers and appears to be able to stretch the field well.

My goodness, do the Seahawks like tight ends. They have Greg Olsen, Jacob Hollister, Will Dissly, Luke Willson, and now Colby Parkinson. With sure hands (only one drop), Parkinson has the ability to make noise in the NFL but will have to separate himself from the rest of the tight ends in the Seahawks’ tight end room. There are plenty of tight end targets to go around as the Seahawks targeted that position 20% of the time in 2019. In a high powered offense, drafting Parkinson as a pass-catching tight end looks like a relatively solid landing spot. It may take a while for him to shine, but he has some decent dynasty potential.
I think Parkinson has a chance to be a decent dynasty bench stash because of his ability to stretch the field and his big frame. That said, you should not be targeting him until the late fourth or early fifth round in dynasty rookie drafts. He will need to improve his ability to separate from defenders at the next level to get the volume of targets to keep him relevant in dynasty. Keep tabs on who leaves the Seahawks TE room over the next few years and watch Parkinson climb their depth chart.
