Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson’s Next Stop: Best Fantasy Fit

The Denver Broncos have officially decided to move on from Russell Wilson with the start of the new league year. Of the QB-needy teams without high draft capital, what landing spots would be the best for Wilson from a fantasy perspective?

Atlanta Falcons

We all watched in horror in 2023 as the Falcons, a team with huge playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, struggled mightily on offense and for fantasy purposes. This was largely due to Authur Smith’s play calling, but luckily for all of us, Smith was given the boot by Atlanta and will no longer be there to give us nightmares in 2024. Gone are the days of Tyler Allgeier out-touching Bijan Robinson and the recently cut Jonnu Smith out-snapping Kyle Pitts.

Another main reason for the stagnant Falcons we saw in 2023 was their subpar QB play. Any team with Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts on it should be a fantasy gold mine and immediate favorites in NFL Fantasy Contests. One would be hard-pressed to find a worse QB room than Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke. Enter Russell Wilson.

We can all agree that Russell Wilson’s best days are behind him while still recognizing what a huge fantasy boost he would give to the Falcons’ offense. With Wilson at the helm, I have no doubt Drake London and Kyle Pitts could live up to their ceilings of being true alpha WR1s and TE1s. Also, with a respectable passing attack that keeps defenses honest the opportunities for Bijan Robinson to succeed would be abundant.

The Falcons are also a realistic landing spot for Wilson’s services as they are currently picking eighth overall in the NFL Draft and likely won’t be able to secure one of the top three QBs without a trade-up.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders rolled out Aidan O’Connell at QB for most of 2023 after their free-agent acquisition of Jimmy Garoppolo fell flat. O’Connell looked serviceable at times, but the Raiders are likely looking for a more established veteran presence at QB for 2024. Russell Wilson would be a good fantasy fit for the Raiders mainly because he could force-feed Davante Adams. Adams’ frustrations with the Raiders QB play last year were on full display as he was visibly upset on the sideline constantly. Wilson still has enough left in the tank to consistently get the ball to Adams and let him show that he’s still a top WR in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings

I fully expect the Vikings to re-sign Kirk Cousins, but if he becomes too expensive and they decide to move on Russell Wilson would be a nice discount version of Cousins for the Vikings. For fantasy purposes, any QB for the Vikings is going to rack up numbers.

The Vikings have shown a propensity to rely heavily on their passing game. Give Russell Wilson top-notch pass-catching options like Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson and he will excel from a fantasy perspective.
