Drew Allar | Penn State | 6’5”, 243 lbs | Age 22
Drew Allar enters the NFL as a high-ceiling quarterback prospect after being the 4th Quarterback drafted overall, selected with the 76th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Allar served as a full-time starter for Penn State across the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons. Known for his elite ball security, he set records for the most pass attempts without an interception to start a career. Allar didn’t do anything spectacular during his tenure, but was a highly touted QB prospect heading into his senior season that unfortunately ended with injury. Notably, Allar’s supporting cast was mostly lackluster for his career outside of Tyler Warren.
In his final collegiate season in 2025, Allar threw for 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns, but was largely overshadowed by poor team play and his aforementioned injury. His career at Penn State was defined by efficient, albeit sometimes conservative, play within a pro-style system that prioritized protecting the football over aggressive vertical shots.

FILM
Allar possesses the prototypical NFL frame, standing 6’5” with the bulk to withstand professional pass rushes. He operates with a massive arm, capable of driving the ball into tight windows at the intermediate level and with effortless velocity on deep outs. His pocket presence improved significantly over his collegiate career; he shows a calm demeanor under pressure and the ability to climb the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.
However, the film reveals a robotic nature to his processing at times. Allar can be hesitant to pull the trigger on contested catches, often opting for the safe check-down rather than testing tight coverage. While he has enough mobility to pick up first downs on broken plays, he is a more traditional pocket passer. His footwork occasionally becomes heavy, leading to inconsistent accuracy when forced to reset his base late in the play.

ATHLETIC TESTING
Allar opted to perform only position drills at the NFL Combine, letting his size and arm strength speak for itself. At 243 lbs, he is one of the physically most imposing quarterbacks in the class. During his Pro Day, he showcased the ability to make 60-yard throws with a flick of the wrist, confirming his elite arm talent.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
- Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Above Average (3rd round 76th overall)
- Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Above Average (Pittsburgh Steelers)
There were a few obvious candidates to select a quarterback at some point in the 2026 NFL draft, one of them being the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Aaron Rodgers uncommitted for this upcoming season, there was always the possibility of a training camp battle between Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and a rookie. This is not to say Allar is better than any of those options, but there is at least a very real opportunity to win the job with first-year coach Mike McCarthy, who has a history of developing at the position.
Being drafted in the early 3rd round, the Steelers must believe that Allar has some potential for development. He is not insulated like a franchise quarterback; however, he should have every opportunity to stick around and make an impact for a couple of seasons.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Allar’s future success as a pro quarterback will be anyone’s guess. With the raw tools and size, Allar may be a future starting quarterback, but even so, his ceiling as a high-end producer is limited. In drafting Allar, you are hoping for him to be the starter for the Steelers or another team, where he could be your low-end QB2 or high-end QB3 on your roster. Given the uncertainty of this draft class as a whole, Allar should be taken in the late 2nd or early 3rd in SuperFlex leagues to stash away on your taxi squad.
