Refs missed blatant holding of Kyle Hamilton in Notre Dame-Cincinnati

Kyle Hamilton was drafted 14th pick of the first round by the Baltimore Ravens, becoming the first safety and 14th overall player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE PRODUCTION

Hamilton led his team in interceptions his true freshman season in 2019 and he wasn’t even a starter. In 2020, he registered a team-high 63 tackles (4.5 for loss, one INT, and six pass breakups) in 11 starts. This past season he led the Irish with three interceptions and also posted 35 tackles, two for loss, and four pass breakups, despite missing half the season with a knee injury. Hamilton was a team captain and possesses elite ball skills and a willingness to thump at the line of scrimmage.

ATHLETIC TESTING

While he didn’t crush the athletic testing at the NFL Scouting Combine, Hamilton still performed fine. He recorded a 4.59 40-yard dash time and a 38-inch vertical jump. His broad jump was 132 inches and his three-cone time was a respectable 6.90. He chose not to participate in the bench press. Hamilton has a unique blend of size, athletic ability, and experience which make him capable of playing literally anywhere on the field.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent

Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Excellent

Kyle Hamilton was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

FANTASY INSIGHTS

The Ravens are a team that has provided fantasy production for their safeties in recent seasons, so this is an ideal landing spot for Hamilton. He is good enough to play box, nickel, or single-high safety, so the positional flexibility is appealing for new DC Mike Macdonald’s aggressive scheme. Hamilton should have opportunities to play in run support and blitz regularly. Your author never likes wasting draft picks on DBs, but this player and landing spot provides the potential for perennial top-three safety production. Expect the upside of Derwin James’-like production and a floor of a top-10 safety. If you need a safety, you can justify taking him in the middle of the second round of IDP Dynasty drafts.
