Devin Lloyd was drafted with the 27th pick of the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, becoming the second linebacker and 27th overall player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Devin Lloyd is an example of hard work and patience. Lloyd redshirted in 2017 and then played as a reserve in 2018. He led his team in tackles as a full-time starter in 2019. In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, he tied for second in the entire FBS with two TFLs per game. This past season he really elevated himself from mid-round NFL prospect to slam-dunk impact prospect. He led the Utes with 110 tackles, eight sacks, and six pass breakups in 14 games, and also returned two of his four INTs for TDs.
ATHLETIC TESTING
Lloyd was serviceable at the NFL Scouting Combine. No one expected him to test off the charts, as he is a high IQ, instinctual player who makes excellent use of film study. He recorded a 4.66 40-yard dash time and a 35-inch vertical jump. His broad jump was 126 inches and he put up 25 reps in the bench press.

While at first, you may wonder about the landing spot, since Jacksonville just signed Foye Oluokun to a big deal, let us consider the entire picture. Foye is an undersized weakside LB, where he excelled in Atlanta the past two years. Devin Lloyd fills the prototypical three-down middle Linebacker role. Also, remember that Jacksonville traded up to make this selection, which tells how highly they think of Lloyd. The Jaguars project to play a lot of snaps on defense in the coming seasons, so Lloyd can really pay dividends as an IDP investment. Expect to see him drafted in the early-to-mid second round of IDP dynasty rookie drafts.
