COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Year | Games Played | Attempts | Yards | Yards/Attempt | TDs |
2018 (FR) | 13 | 72 | 366 | 5.1 | 8 |
2019 (SO) | 13 | 127 | 817 | 6.4 | 11 |
2020 (JR) | 1 | 10 | 95 | 9.5 | 1 |
2021 (JR) | 12 | 160 | 880 | 5.5 | 12 |
Under Head Coach Mike Leach during his first two seasons at Washington State, Borghi became a star both as a rusher and a receiver. In 26 games played, he produced 1,183 rushing yards, 19 rushing touchdowns, 139 receptions, and nine receiving touchdowns. His 86 receptions during the 2019 season are the fourth-most in a season by any Washington State player in the school’s history. Leach then left for Mississippi State, and Borghi was limited to just one game played in 2020 due to a back injury. He bounced back for his final season in 2021, as he produced career-highs in both rushing yards (880) and touchdowns (12).
STRENGTHS
Shows build-up speed in the open field. Takes great care of the football as a runner. Terrific effort as a pass-blocker in the backfield. Absurd production as a pass-catcher early on in his collegiate career.
WEAKNESSES
Lacks leg drive to break tackles. Slow in making cuts and tends to run slowly when anticipating contact. Short-area elusiveness and has a hard time reading the field well. Tape isn’t exciting, and he never seemed to dominate the defense on any given play.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At the NFL combine, Borghi measured in at 5’9” and 210 lbs. Which equates to a BMI of 31.0. At his Pro Day, he ran a modest 4.57 40-yard dash (56th percentile), equating to a 96.3-speed score (50th percentile). Borghi also displayed an 11.42 agility score (49th percentile) and a college dominator of 25.8 percent (55th percentile).
Borghi lacks great speed for his position, but he makes up for it with his strength and effort. He repped out 20 reps on the bench press. And he thrived as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Indianapolis welcomes Borghi to a running back room that already includes Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, and Deon Jackson. Borghi should get a chance at competing for the RB3 spot with Jackson, but let’s be honest here, he won’t see the field much unless injuries to others give him an opportunity. He’s a strong runner, who could find himself with a short-yardage role, but Taylor is possibly the best back in the league at this point. He’s also a great pass-catcher out o the backfield, but even Hines may be one of the best at that feat as well. Don’t bother drafting Borghi in any league formats, but he’s worth a gamble on your taxi squad if you truly believe in him.
