Each Friday, Aaron Larson (@aalarson) and Michael Stephenson (@DFF_MSte) examine the hottest NFL rumors and offer their insights as to any potential fantasy football implications they might have heading into the weekend. So, grab your beverage or snack of choice and get ready to start the week off with some good old-fashioned fantasy football speculation
Rumor: Josh Gordon is now listed as a starting wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns.
Fantasy Fallout: Gordon wasn’t supposed to start week one (even though he technically did), but he still played in 78% of Cleveland’s offensive plays. He is a top talent receiver that you need to start if he’s on your team. (AL)
Rumor: The Patriots have signed wide receivers Bennie Fowler and Corey Coleman
Fantasy Fallout: New England only had three active wide receivers in week one, so they definitely needed to add some depth at the position. Still, the additions will have little or no fantasy impact in redraft leagues. (AL)
Rumor: Leonard Fournette’s hamstring injury is minor. Fournette has called himself a game-time decision
Fantasy Fallout: TJ Yeldon was one of the hottest waiver wire adds this week but he will, of course, be rendered useless if Fournette suits up. Fournette was in line for a hefty workload last week, amassing 14 carries and 3 targets before he left the game in the first half. Keep your eye out for game day updates and roll him out if he’s fit. (MS)
Rumor: Kenneth Dixon is expected to miss several weeks.
Fantasy Fallout: Dixon actually led the Ravens in carries and yards as they trounced the Bills in week one, but with him absent for a few weeks look for Alex Collins to lock up the lead back role while Buck Allen will have value as a goalline and receiving option. (AL)
Rumor: Jon Gruden wants to do a better job of getting Amari Cooper the football.
Fantasy Fallout: Cooper’s usage has nowhere to go but up after grabbing just two catches on four targets Monday night against the Rams. Fantasy owners will want to stick it out a few more weeks with Cooper, but it will be difficult to trust him in week two with another tough matchup in Denver. (AL)
Rumor: Pete Carroll said that Chris Carson really took the lead at running back, while Rashaad Penny looked rusty.
Fantasy Fallout: The pair of Seahawks running backs split carries and targets evenly in week one, and while Carson was more effective with his touches I find it hard to completely buy into him. I think it’s only a matter of time before the workload starts shifting in Penny’s favor. (AL)
Rumor: The Seahawks are considering moving CJ Prosise to wide receiver.
Fantasy Fallout: The Seahawks WR Depth chart is a sight for sore eyes right now, with Tyler Lockett and Brandon Marshall being Russ Wilson’s top options. Prosise was converted from WR to RB in his final year of college and has shown proficiency in the passing game in his time with Seattle. One to watch for in the coming weeks. (MS)
Rumor: The Raiders have resigned Martavis Bryant and Gruden thinks he is ready to go in week 2.
Fantasy Fallout: This will further muddy up an already murky receiving corps. In Week 1 vs the Rams, Derek Carr targeted 8 different players at least twice, with RB Jalen Richard and TE Jared Cook seeing 23 of Carr’s 39 targets. The Raiders come up against a formidable Broncos D in week 2, i will not be starting any Raiders if i can avoid it (MS)
Rumor: The Packers could be Heading to Minnesota without Devante Adams
Fantasy Fallout: Geronimo Allison and Randall Cobb both had very productive week 1s, and their stock both rises if Adams misses this game. That being said, they are facing Minnesota and Xavier Rhodes, whichever of the two avoids his attention should be in for a big game. (MS)
Rumor: Marquise Goodwin is set to miss week 2 with a thigh injury
Fantasy Fallout: With Goodwin sidelined in week 1, Garoppolo turned to TE George Kittle and rookie Dante Pettis. The 49ers come up against a Lions Defense who allowed 48 points to the Jets, you should feel confident rolling out Pettis, Kittle and Pierre Garcon everywhere you have them. (MS)
