Waiver Wire Sniping: Week 4 Targets

This off-season on the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast we debuted a segment dubbed “ADP Sniping.” The idea was to take advantage of drafting online by identifying players that were pushed down by specific website rankings because we all know that there’s nothing better than sneaking one by your league mates. Well, the fun doesn’t have to end at the draft. One of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football (you can call it a “life hack” if you want… that’s hot now, right?) is “Waiver Wire Sniping.”

This strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free. “Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.

Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week, but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 4.

Week 4 Streaming Options

Carson Palmer vs. SF (53%) & Trevor Siemian vs. OAK (51%) – I try to have players on here that are less owned but both of these guys have great matchups at home in week 4. Palmer is a great option for week 3 as well so I would prioritize him and maybe get two starts out of him.

Jay Cutlervs. NO (36%) – Cutler has been a frequent member of this list the last couple weeks and will continue to be going forward if he remains this highly unowned. He’s got a cake matchup in week 4 against the Saints as well as great matchups weeks 5-7 with TEN, @ATL, NYJ.

Julius Thomas vs. NO (38%) – I hate having Julius on here two weeks in a row, but TE streaming options are not great in week 4. As I said with Cutler, his matchup is crazy good next week.

Ryan Griffin vs. TEN (0%) – I told you TE streaming options are not great next week. With C.J Fiedorowicz on IR and Will Fuller still working his way back, Griffin could be in line for targets. I talked him up as a DEEP sleeper for week 3 on this week’s pod so he may get more attention on the wire next week.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ NYJ (41%) – Jacksonville will have a rough week having to travel back from Sunday’s game in London, but they should be used to it by now. This is your weekly “whoever plays the Jets” pick.

The Stashes – Listed in order of priority.

QB: Andrew Luck (76%) – People are getting tired of waiting, check to see if he’s on your wire. Mitchell Trubisky (2%) – If you’re in a 2QB league, this kid’s time is coming. He’s starting week 5. Book it.

RB: Doug Martin – Coming back from suspension in week 5 (82%). Chris Johnson (35%),

Jalen Richard (19%), Alvin Kamara (40%), Samaje Perine (38%), D’Onta Foreman (15%), Branden Oliver (1%),Devontae Booker (2%), James Conner (8%)

WR: Willie Snead – Coming off suspension next week (73%). Tyler Lockett (41%), Danny Amendola (51%), Paul Richardson (11%), Devin Funches (17%),Allen Hurns (37%)

The coming off injury guys: Mike Williams (5%), Will Fuller IV (3%)

The “Gronk Injury” Stash: Dwayne Allen (7%)

Week 3 Potential Matchups to Avoid: OAK @ DEN, IND @ SEA, TB vs. NYG, BAL vs. PIT

Teams on Bye next week: None – Bye weeks begin in week 5.

*All ownership percentages are direct from Yahoo.
