Last year when this series debuted, I wanted to help shed light on one of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football, Waiver Wire Sniping. The strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free and before that player is featured on podcasts (such as the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast – shameless plug) and waiver articles across the fantasy football world.
“Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.
Each week I’ll be giving you potential steaming options for the week ahead, some stash candidates that are widely available in redraft leagues and highlighting the tough matchups and teams on bye in the coming week.
Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 7.
Week 7 Streaming Options
Joe Flacco vs. NO (27%) – There are some better options that are 40-55%+ owned out there (Winston, Mayfield, Bortles) but if we’re digging a little deeper, I don’t mind taking a stab at Flacco. With a matchup next week at home vs. the Saints who currently give up the 3rd most fantasy points to QBs.
Marlon Mack vs. BUF (22%) – According to reports, Mack is scheduled to start this weekend vs. the Jets. This will only be Mack’s second game of the season, so fantasy owners have been left in the dark as to how this Indy backfield will be split when everyone suites up. With a week 7 matchup vs. the Bills at home, I’d be looking to stash Mack before Sunday.
Antonio Callaway @ TB (23%) – With Rashard Higgins potentially out for a few weeks, this could be the opportunity Callaway needs to see more targets. We’ll get a look this week at how the Browns distribute the work, but Callaway has a great matchup next week against a Bucs team that is currently giving up the 2nd most fantasy points to WRs.
Chester Rogers vs. BUF (10%) – This one is just as much about the player as it is the matchup. With T.Y. Hilton out, there are targets to go around in Indy. Rogers has seen 11 targets each of the last two weeks as Andrew Luck has been chucking it around without much of a run game. I think Rogers will be someone that Luck continues to lean on and be a nice bye week fill in.
Niles Paul vs. HOU (3%) – Going DEEP for you guys at TE this week. With ASJ being placed on IR, Paul saw 9 targets last week in Jacksonville’s game in Kansas City. Paul’s matchup against a Houston defense that has given up the 5th most points to the TE on the year could be one that fantasy owners take advantage of in week 7.
IND vs. BUF (5%) – Unless Denver is available (currently 50% owned), the Colts might be your best option. The Bills defense gives up the most fantasy points to opposing DSTs, and with not many other great options out there, Indy is probably your best bet.
The Stashes – Other players to monitor that might be available in your league. Listed below in order I would rank these pickups.
Shallow League Options: Mike Davis (34%), Nick Chubb (31%), Ronald Jones (30%)
Deeper League Options: Alfred Blue (17%), Ito Smith (4%)
Shallow League Options: Chris Godwin (44%), Geronimo Allison (47%), Keke Coutee (46%), Mohamed Sanu (48%), Quincy Enunwa (48%)
Deeper League Options: Christian Kirk (14%), Cameron Meredith (10%),
Marquez Valdes-Scantling (11%), Ryan Grant (8%), Taywan Taylor (7%),Tre’Quan Smith (5%)
Week 6 Potential Matchups to Avoid: HOU @ JAX, NE @ CHI, NYJ vs. MIN
Teams on Bye next week: GB, OAK, PIT, SEA
