Last year when this series debuted, I wanted to help shed light on one of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football, Waiver Wire Sniping. The strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free and before that player is featured on podcasts (such as the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast – shameless plug) and waiver articles across the fantasy football world.
“Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.
Each week I’ll be giving you potential steaming options for the week ahead, some stash candidates that are widely available in redraft leagues and highlighting the tough matchups and teams on bye in the coming week.
Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 4.
Week 4 Streaming Options
Case Keenum vs. KC (29%) – Keenum is available in almost 70% of leagues. With the bye weeks starting up, these streaming options become ever more valuable. Keenum will face off against a bad Chiefs defense at home in week 4 and will more than likely have to be throwing quite a bit to keep Denver in the game. Keenum is a nice option next week.
Joe Flacco @ PIT (13%) – Nobody likes to start Joe Flacco, but facts are, he’s been fairly solid for fantasy owners since the end of last season. Flacco has put up at least 2 TDs in each of his last 7 games dating back to last year and will have a decent shot to do it again in week 4 against the Steelers.
Jordan Wilkins vs. HOU (27%) – Due to Marlon Mack’s return last week, Wilkins’ ownership has dropped despite being the more productive back for the Colts in week 2. If the Colts decide Wilkens has done enough to earn more work, I think he could be passable as a flex option next week at home vs. the Texans. Regardless, I still like him as a stash candidate going forward.
Geronimo Allison vs. BUF (33%) – Ah, a matchup against the Bill, what could be better?! Of course, we all know the Bills are horrible, but regardless Allison is getting a little overlooked in my opinion. He’s received 14 targets in the first two games for the Packers with 60+ yards in both games. I think Allison has a decent shot of scoring against the Buffalo next week.
Jake Butt vs. KC (4%) – As mentioned with Keenum, the matchup next week for the Broncos is above average facing off against the Chiefs. Butt is a deep sleeper but could be a nice streaming option if the Chiefs are without Eric Berry again who just gave up a big game to Jesse James. Butt has been leading the Denver TEs in playing time and targets, so he’s a decent start for a TE needy squad.
Green Bay vs. BUF (27%) – You don’t need me to tell you why this is a good start, but if you do… Buffalo. At Home. The End.
The Stashes – Other players to monitor that might be available in your league. Listed below in order I would rank these pickups.
Shallow League Options: Corey Clement (45%), Latavius Murray (43%), Marlon Mack (41%), Ronald Jones (22%)
Deeper League Options: Mark Walton (1%), Samaje Perine (1%), Corey Grant (3%), Chase Edmonds (2%)
Shallow League Options: Chris Godwin (40%), Calvin Ridley (34%), D.J. Moore (28%), Dante Pettis (12%), Dede Westbrook (20%)
Deeper League Options: Tyler Boyd (10%), Taywan Taylor (2%), Albert Wilson (1%), James Washington (3%)
Week 4 Potential Matchups to Avoid: MIN @ LAR (both teams), NYJ @ JAX, TB @ CHI
Teams on Bye next week: CAR, WSH
