Waiver Wire Sniping: Week 13

Last year when this series debuted, I wanted to help shed light on one of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football, Waiver Wire Sniping. The strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid.

By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free and before that player is featured on podcasts (such as the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast – shameless plug) and waiver articles across the fantasy football world. “Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.

Each week I’ll be giving you potential steaming options for the week ahead, some stash candidates that are widely available in redraft leagues and highlighting the tough matchups and teams on bye in the coming week.

Here are some guys that you might not necessarily need for this week but might be high Waiver Wire pickups for week 13.

Week 13 Streaming Options

Jameis Winston vs. CAR (45%) – Winston is a strong start in week 12 as well, but if you’re looking to add another QB, Winston has nice matchups the next two weeks. Week 13 he gets a Panthers defense that has given up the 6th most fantasy points to QBs and Saints who give up the 4th most fantasy points entering week 12.

Lamar Jackson @ ALT (39%) – If you haven’t already, it’s time to jump on the Lamar Jackson hype train. Yes, his passing numbers might be ugly, but for fantasy owners the fantasy football gold that is QB rushing yards are there for the taking. What we saw from Jackson in week 11 was 17 fantasy points without even scoring a TD! If Jackson remains the starter, he’s looking at matchups against ATL, KC, TB, and LAC to wrap up the fantasy season.

Elijah McGuire @ TEN (13%) – McGuire’s matchup next week isn’t great as the Titans are giving up the 4th fewest fantasy points to RBs on the season, but the last time we saw that Jets McGuire out-preformed backfield matte Isaiah Crowell. If McGuire ends up being the lead back for the Jets this week coming off their bye week, you’ll want to get ahead of it.

Josh Reynolds @ DET (51%) – I usually don’t include players that are over 50% owned, but if Reynolds is available in your league, he’s worth an add. Replacing Cooper Kupp as the Rams 3rd WR, Reynolds saw 8 targets for 6 catches, 80 yards, and a TD. Reynolds also just missed a 2nd TD in the Rams shootout against KC last week. If we overlooked on waiver this week, he’s a great stash.

Adam Humphries vs. CAR (25%) – If you’re looking for a deeper stash, Humphries has shown chemistry with Winston that could continue. Humphries has 60+ yards in four of his last six games with three TDs over that stretch.

Jeff Heuerman @ CIN (20%) – There aren’t many great options available at TE next week, but Heuerman could be in for a decent game next week against a Bengals team that is currently giving up the 6th most fantasy points to TEs on the season. Heuerman has seen at least five targets in each of his last four games so hopefully, that is enough for a decent day against the Bengals.

MIA vs. BUF (10%) – It doesn’t matter who’s under center for Buffalo, any DST is a solid play against this offense, and the Dolphins are available almost everywhere.

Week 13 Potential Matchups to Avoid: ATL vs. BAL, NYG vs. CHI

Teams on Bye next week: None
