Under the Radar: Week 1 IDP Starters

Each week I will provide you with a few player options who will contribute to your IDP fantasy teams that are likely to be started in less than fifty percent of MFL leagues. Good luck to you and always be building!

Defensive Line

Andrew Billings, DT, Cincinnati Bengals, Starting: <1%
The Cincinnati Bengals get a weak Indianapolis Colts offensive line to take advantage of this week. If the Colts find themselves in long yardage situations, they will be feeling the heat from a formidable defense. Andrew Billings will benefit from Geno Atkins presence and will win his one on one battles with the guards. I like him to get some points and am starting him in many leagues.

Jonathan Allen, DE, Washington Redskins, Starting: 10%
Washington’s defensive line improved the second Allen returned healthy this season. In leagues that reward tackles for a loss, you’ll get a nice return for starting him this week. The tackles in run support will be there, so if you’re in need of a starter, get him in your lineup.

Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Cleveland Browns, Starting: 8%
I don’t understand the “no love” for this guy. He has an opportunity to put up some top-shelf numbers this year. If you’re looking at your lineup and aren’t sold on your starting DEs, plug him in and enjoy the rewards. It’s another situation where you have a talented player who will not be the focal point for opposing offensive coordinators. Let them worry about Myles Garrett, and you’ll get the Ogbah production on the cheap.

Linebackers

Fred Warner, Linebacker, San Francisco 49ers, Starting 24%
He is starting week one! I admit I was a little surprised his starting percentage was so low. He should provide fantasy owners a quality start, and if you’re scratching your head looking for options, he can be your answer.

Josh Bynes, Linebacker, Arizona Cardinals, Starting: 30%
Tackle opportunity here. Bynes will play on run downs and can provide okay fantasy numbers for you. I believe Washington will look to run early and this will help Bynes get his tackles. The longer the game is close, the better his chances.

Reggie Ragland, Linebacker, Kansas City Chiefs, Starting: 23%
Ragland has been left for dead on the side of the road in IDP circles. This is a week where we can get a feel for how the season might play out for him. In deeper leagues where you start more than four LBs, I’m rolling him out to help me. The Chargers will be a formidable test, and the KC defense should all have fantasy-worthy stat lines.

Zach Cunningham, Linebacker. Houston Texans, Starting 48%
This is an excellent matchup for an LB who excels in coverage. I’m starting him with confidence and with him under 50% starting he is a sleeper who will deliver for you. Tom Brady and company will move the ball and Cunningham will put up some lofty numbers because of it.

Defensive Backs

Chris Conte, Saftey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Starting 38%
The Saints will run the ball and look to take some shots down the field this week. I would expect some looks at Conte, and the Saints will keep him active- this is what you want in IDP. We want our IDP players to be busy. Conte is a good option for anyone scrambling for a starter this week.

Malcolm Butler, Cornerback, Tennessee Titans, Starting 42%
A shaky Ryan Tannehill leaves me loving Butler this week. At some point, Tannehill will force balls and defenders will have opportunities to make plays. I can see Miami playing from behind, and that locks Butler into my lineups.

I hope you were able to find some helpful sleepers this week. Us fantasy owners are always looking to stash players and sneak in an extra lineup adjustment as we try for higher scores. Good luck to you and go get those victories. You can find me on twitter @DFF_JohnIDP
