The Linebacker position is the meat and bones of IDP leagues. It’s the position that is a must to keep our teams loaded up year-in and year-out to stay competitive. One way to keep that talent full is hitting on your draft picks. Personally, I like my top 10 a ton! All of them are guys I would be happy to select in the first two rounds… That’s right! We have an excellent group here, and I would love to land one in my rookie drafts.
Here we go.
1. Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech
I Believe he can handle the work in the middle. Those who believe he cannot will balk at his listing atop my rankings. My friends, he is talented and special player who will, and can, lead from MLB spot. With range and skills to stay on the field every down, he will prove a valuable addition to your fantasy lineups.
2. Roquan Smith, Georgia
Speed, when added to an already aggressive hitter, is a unique talent that teams will pay for. He is smart and can quickly attack a play by understanding where the ball is going and visualizes the blocking in front of him. The LB needy teams looking to add a leader to their defense will be happy to grab him. He has the upside to sneak into LB 2 range from the get-go.
3. Rashaan Evans, Alabama
He is a perfect fit in the middle who can get after, and tackle AND pop them in the gap as well as drop in coverage. I have no doubt he will be a weekly starter for fantasy teams.
4. Lorenzo Carter, Georgia
This is another player I have enjoyed watching. This kid can move. An intriguing athlete who can be used to drop into coverage or sent after the QB off the edge standing up or on the line. This kid is the real deal! He is a playmaking machine looking for an IDP-friendly landing spot.
5. Leighton Vander Esch, Boise State
Another well-rounded player who can do well in every way. He is a chess piece who can be moved around the line to rush the passer, cover, and stop the run. I would be delighted to draft him.
6. Darius Leonard, SC State
Capable of playing at a high level in the middle or on the outside, he will be a name you will want to know. His coverage skills are good, and his sideline to sideline speed is on par with the position. This is one of my favorite players, and he will be a draft day steal.
7. Genard Avery, Memphis
Impressive speed and great instincts make him valuable to a 4-3 defense at either the weak or strong side. He is a strong tackler who knows how to get to a ball carrier quick. The one knock is his coverage, but he showed enough for me to believe he can get coached up and be a three-down player.
8. Tegray Scales, Indiana
Shows some serious coverage skills to go along with a significant jump on his reads. Instant reactions get him to his points, and he beats the blocks often and makes the tackles. Avoids contact but he makes it work. WILL LB role and could make a nice three-down player.
9. Fred Warner, BYU
He is a premier coverage LB who is very smart on his reads and the scheme around him. I am very high on him and believe in the right defense he could handle a three-down role as long as he holds up against the run.
10. Malik Jefferson, Texas
He has talent, but can’t get off a block to save his life. He gets pushed out of anything moving in front of him. Limited usage in man defense and is slow to react in zone coverage, but his speed helps hide it. If he lands in a 3-4 defense where he gets help next to him, and he can chase I would like him much more. I feel like San Fran might be his new home?
