Rumor Mill Recap 8/27/17-9/2/18

Each Monday (or sometimes Tuesday), Aaron Larson (@aalarson) and Michael Stephenson (@DFF_MSte) examine the hottest NFL rumors and offer their insights as to any potential fantasy football implications they might have. So, grab your beverage or snack of choice and get ready to start the week off with some good old-fashioned fantasy football speculation

Rumor: Alshon Jeffery passed his physical and returned to practice, but it is unsure when he will be able to play

Fantasy Fallout: Jeffery led the Eagles with nine touchdowns in 2017, but hasn’t practiced all offseason due to a shoulder injury. With his ADP plummeting you can probably get him in the seventh round or later, but he will be hard to trust in your lineup for the first several games of the season. (AL)

Mack Hollins is also struggling with an injury this week, meaning Nelson Agholor and Zach Ertz should be in for a great start to the year. Mike Wallace could also be a sneaky flex play if you are struggling (MS)

Rumor: Broncos coach Vance Joseph stated that either running back could be on the field for the first play of the season opener.

Fantasy Fallout: A lot of noise has been made about Devontae Booker remaining the starter, even though he has been outplayed by Royce Freeman this preseason. While Joseph seems to want to give the veteran the chance to “start,” Freeman looks poised to be the Broncos leading ball carrier. (AL)

Rumor: Adam Gase wants to get Kenyan Drake 15 to 20 carries and at least six targets per game.

Fantasy Fallout: Drake has been one of the most polarizing players in the fantasy community headed into the 2018 season. While this may just be coach speak, all signs point to Drake getting the opportunity to prove his worth with heavy involvement in the Dolphins offense. With his current ADP at the end of the third round could prove to be a steal. (AL)

Rumor: Doug Baldwin says he will not be at 100 percent all season.

Fantasy Fallout: Baldwin also said he hasn’t been 100 percent his entire life, so playing at 80-85 percent may not be a big deal. Baldwin has averaged 115 targets over the past three seasons, and Seattle may have to lean on him more than ever this season with the departures of Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson. (AL)

Rumor: Marlon Mack is making good progress in his return from a hamstring injury, but his week one status will go down to the wire.

Fantasy Fallout: Mack is one of the biggest question marks in fantasy football right now. If he ends up being healthy enough to be the start and Andrew Luck is back to his former self he could be a massive value late in drafts. He is a nice stash for now, but don’t be afraid to cut bait if isn’t ready for week one (AL)

If Mack doesn’t make it check your waiver wire for Jordan Wilkins, he’s owned in just 30% of leagues and should be the main man if Mack is out. (MS)

Rumor: After Devontae Booker was named as the starting RB for Denver last week, Head Coach Vance Joseph has now named Royce Freeman as the starter.

Fantasy Fallout: The Booker news allowed a lot of happy drafters to grab some value on Royce Freeman during the busiest draft weekend of the year. Now that the Broncos have eventually made the correct decision, we can expect Royce to produce as a three down back with serious RB1 upside. (MS)
