New York Giants Round 1 Pick #6Daniel Jones:
Surprising pick that is for certain. Although a lot less surprising when you realize Dave Gettleman is the one that drafted him. Daniel Jones getting selected by the New York Giants is pretty “meh” when it comes to any fantasy relevance. Jones has the physical tools (6’5″, 221 lbs.) that NFL GMs want in a pro-style quarterback, but the truth of the matter is Gettleman truly does believe that Eli Manning will be their starting quarterback for the next few seasons. Daniel Jones most likely won’t even get to see the playing field until 2021, unless Eli gets injured or the Giants are out of playoff contention (which could be early).
Saquon Barkley owners are crossing their fingers that this will spark a fire under Eli Manning and he will start playing as his job depends on it. As I mentioned above, this pick is pretty uneventful for fantasy owners unless they are in a superflex league. However, let’s pretend Daniel Jones does see the field for the majority of next season… I STILL don’t think it would create a positive or negative impact on Saquon Barkley, Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard, and Even Engram.
Let us look at Daniel Jones’ game log splits his final year in college:
My foregone conclusion on this pick is simple. Daniel Jones is untested playing in a weaker collegiate conference and when he did get the opportunity to play against above average defenses (Clemson and Miami), he simply did not deliver. He is going to be a developmental player and hopefully one day he can be a serviceable quarterback on your superflex team. However, I am not very optimistic for that to actually happen.
