We are now in the dead zone for Fantasy Football and by all means, enjoy your cookouts and poolside adventures. Also please remember that this is the last month without (real)NFL football. So, if your league has trades open now and you want to get away from your wife and kids, in-laws or the relatives who pop by unannounced like Cousin Eddie in Christmas Vacation, I have your escape. So, grab your phone, tablet or laptop and find a hole in the attic or crawl space and read this 8 part series of IDP Buy/Sell. If you immerse yourself into this series, you will win a lot in your IDP leagues. Now, welcome to the series that WILL take you to the Promised Land.
Buy: Duke Riley, Linebacker – To my pure joy and excitement, I found in most of my IDP leagues they were just letting Duke roll right by round after round. I licked my meat hooks and grabbed him in almost every league. When Kendell Beckwith went down at LSU, Mr. Riley came in and filled in very handsomely by leading the team in tackles. His film reminds me of watching the smaller dog in a pack just get fed up one day after getting picked on constantly, and just loses it! Duke Riley plays this way on every snap. So, if he is just sitting there because the jabroni’s you’re drafting with don’t even know him, wait and grab him late, He shouldn’t, but he will be there……. 😉
Sell: De’Vondre Campbell, Linebacker – This kid can fly, let me first state that. I liked him coming out of Minnesota and got to watch him play against my Buckeyes many times. He played next to Deion Jones last year but now will be moving to strong side linebacker where I feel he will be a better pro, over a fantasy star, because of his chase down qualities.
New Orleans Saints
Buy: A.J. Klein, Linebacker – Now is Klein’s time to seize a starting gig on a team where he does not have to be in a shadow of a Hall of Famer. The rest of the LBing corps in New Orleans is not that great. Besides Alex Anzalone, you can sell the rest. A.J. Klein should get the starting role under grips when the smoke clears in August. I can see him grab 85-95 tackles this year, with upside. CARPE’ DIEM A.J.!
Sell: Stephone Anthony, Linebacker – He was given time at middle linebacker in his rookie year and did not secure the spot. He was given that chance and only played 133 defensive snaps. Let the Clemson truth-er in your league give you some decent draft picks and turn those picks into an A.J. Klein or Duke Riley.
Buy: Ben Boulware, Linebacker – I am going out on a limb here and saying this very gritty undrafted free agent will make the 53 man roster and become a backup. If he works his way up the ladder, he could become Luke the Beasts backup, and that is a position that may become valuable in the future because of his long list of head injuries. If anyone has doubts about him just look at his national championship senior year stats: A team-high 116 tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss and 4 sacks. Not too shabby for a guy in a tough conference going up against top rated players. BUY!
Sell: Kurt Coleman, Safety – There was a time I had Kurt on all my teams. He is a former Ohio State Buckeye, and he could ball when he was in Philly. He had a resurgence in IDP circles last year for a ‘Luke-less’ Panthers defense. He made some great plays on interceptions, but take those 4 weeks out, and he was an average safety. Sell to that Buckeye freak or Panther fan. Either way, I won’t bite on that offer!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buy: Vernon Hargreaves, Cornerback – This is one of two cornerback takes that will be in this entire 64 take series. The most fickle position in all of IDP is not a favorite of mine. Hell, some IDP leagues treat the position like a kicker on offense. I agree with this method to a point. I only play CBs that have a favorable matchup from week to week. (If you want other cornerback IDP insight, be sure to tune into the IDP Devy Dark side Podcast with Madman and myself coming soon in our “Cornerback Minute” segment) So, If you must draft a corner then grab this young and tough corner out of Florida who has the physical tools to become great. I like him most for his tenacity and ball hawking skills. His 8 interceptions last year attests to that.
Sell: Nobody – I like what Tampa is doing with the pieces on their defense. I had the chance to live in the Tampa Bay area when they won the Super Bowl, and it was amazing! If they continue on this path of grabbing great talent, there is no reason they can’t make a deep playoff run. Only sell I could possibly suggest is Kendell Beckwith, the LBer out of LSU. He had a torn ACL this past November which caused him to slip In the draft. He is competing with Devante Bond for first-team reps at strong side linebacker throughout training camp.
Just 2 more segments in this series are coming!!! NFC East & West!
