The Bye-pocolypse is upon us with 6 teams on bye this week. The Bengals, Colts, Giants, Eagles, Cardinals, and Jaguars are all off meaning that a lot of IDP studs are going to be on your bench this week. Each week I’ll give you one player from each position to pick up for your squads and some bonus players if you need multiple options. Here are my top waiver adds for Week 9.
DT – Da’Ron Payne, Washington Redskins
As much as I’ve denied Payne as an IDP asset on the Edge Crushers Podcast, the statistics speak for themselves. Payne is a top 10 DT so far this season and collected another sack on Sunday, bringing his total to 3 on the year. Combined with his 3 solos and an assist he has provided a decent floor almost every game this season. There aren’t many options that I haven’t discussed previously, but if you’re looking for some other options check out Kenny Clark, GB; Johnathan Hankins, OAK, and Akeem Spence, MIA.
DE – Markus Golden, Arizona Cardinals
Golden is going on bye in Week 9 but is the best guy probably available in your dynasty waivers if he isn’t already scooped up. My second best waiver add was also on bye this week B.J. Hill from the Giants. There aren’t many guys producing that probably aren’t already on rosters and Golden is just getting healthy. He had 7 solos and a sack on Sunday and finally looks healthy. Hill had 5 solos an assist, and a pass defended on Sunday, and his snaps should increase with the Giants moving on from Snacks Harrison up front and seem to be playing for next season and a better draft pick. Hill has had multiple tackles in each of the last 4 weeks and could be a good player down the stretch after his bye. Need somebody for this week? Check on availability for Marcus Davenport, who has had 2 games with a sack out of his last 3 or Dion Jordan, who is back again healthy and recorded a sack in his first game back off an injury.
LB – Marquel Lee, Oakland Raiders
A slight drop in the number of snaps is a little concerning, but he had his most productive game in the middle with 7 solos and 4 assists on the day. Jason Cabinda is a name to keep stored away for the time being, but Lee seems to be a decent play for the Raiders, and they have already had their bye week. Other options include Jordan Evans, Cincinnati Bengals; Dee Ford, Kansas City Chiefs; or Josh Harvey-Clemons (super deep patience play), Washington Redskins.
CB – Eli Apple, New Orleans Saints
This one is pretty easy. Marcus Lattimore is really good at football. Eli Apple is not. He will get abused in coverage and rack up tackles. Eli Apple had 9 solos in his Saints debut. Don’t overthink this corner thing. Other notables include Avonte Maddox (on bye Week 9), Philadelphia Eagles; Jaire Alexander, Green Bay Packers; and Justin Coleman, Seattle Seahawks.
S – D.J. Swearinger, Washington Redskins
Swearinger is currently the 15th ranked safety in overall points for the position and has already had his bye week. He has had a solid season, and while the tackle numbers aren’t huge, he had 3 passes defended and 2 INTs Sunday, and has had a hand in 7 turnovers on the season. Some other options at safety include Eric Reid, Carolina Panthers; Erik Harris, Oakland Raiders; or Tedric Thompson, Seattle Seahawks.
