While there are only 4 teams on a bye this week, there are plenty of IDP options off the board for your squad. This week the Ravens, Broncos, Texans, and Vikings get a break. Each week I’ll give you one player from each position to pick up for your squads and some bonus players if you need multiple options. Here are my top waiver adds for Week 9.
DT – Akeem Spence, Miami Dolphins
A bonus recommendation last week, Spence has put together a couple of good games in a row as the Dolphins lineman have been disappearing with injuries. Spence sacked Sam Darnold twice on Sunday and had at least 2 tackles in his past three games. I’m always looking for a decent floor from this position, so Spence isn’t a bad pickup at this stage of the game. Other notables: Tom Johnson, MIN (on bye this week), Corey Liuget, LAC, or Jack Crawford, ATL.
DE – Matt Ioannidis, Washington Redskins
With 6.5 sacks on the season, Ioannidis has been a pleasant surprise for anybody who has rostered the Redskin. He has been a streaky boom-bust play as he had sacks in the first three games of the season, struggled for his next three and the last two have been very productive with 10 solos and 3.5 sacks over the two games. Some other notables include Cassius Marsh, SF, Adrian Clayborn, NE, or Carl Nassib, TB.
LB – Jason Cabinda, Oakland Raiders
We have a new starter in Oakland. Not that I like relying on Raiders for anything, but Jason Cabinda was a player I liked out of Penn St. that is going to get an opportunity to play on a terrible Raiders team, MLB is a position I covet and will be picking him up. Other notables: I’m guessing Roquan Smith, CHI is already taken, but if he isn’t he’s starting to heat up; Julian Stanford, BUF (if Edmunds misses any more time); or Alex Anzalone, NO
CB – P.J. Williams, New Orleans Saints
Another week, another Saints corner. The Saints have a couple of corners worth playing in IDP. Last week I recommended Apple, this week Williams. You could roll with two Saints. Williams had a very nice Week 8 and a solid Week 9. As long as the Saints are playing well, teams will be playing catchup. Bengals, Eagles, and Falcons are on deck which should make for some good shootouts. Other notables include: Bashaud Breeland, GB; Jimmy Smith, BAL; or Mike Hilton, PIT
S – Justin Reid, Houston Texans
This rookie has been outstanding for the Texans. Week 9 featured 9 solos, an assist, and a fumble recovery. If you need a safety for this week, you’ll need to look at the notables list, but going forward Reid looks like a stud at the position with a knack for being around the ball. Other notables include Minkah Fitzpatrick, MIA (drama in MIA with Reshad Jones); Eric Murray, KC; or Jordan Whitehead, TB.
