Easy Like Sunday Morning: 11.18

This article is meant to be a quick recap of news from the last week, thoughts going into each week’s games, notes on injuries, guys to put on your radar, etc. It’ll be a quick article every week because we’re all busy Sunday mornings.

News and Notes

Good news/Bad News situation. Bad News: Denzel Perryman was placed on IR. Good New: Deion Jones was activated off IR.

The great news is Joey Bosa will see his first action of the season. He will likely be limited, but this means he should be available for the fantasy playoffs.

2019 Prep

It’s time to start looking at this offseason’s free agent class in order to find potential stashes. Over the next couple weeks, I’ll pick one position every week to review pending UFAs and see if there are any worthwhile stashes. This week, we’ll look at Safeties.

  • LaMarcus Joyner – The next safety on this roster would be Marqui Christian who currently plays sub-package LB. Christian might not be the right guy to replace FS Joyner.
  • Earl Thomas – We analyzed this one to death before the season. What do you guys think? Will he resign with Seattle? I just shook my Magic 8-Ball, and it said, “Probably Not.”
  • Tyrann Mathieu – If Honeybadger walks, it would be 3rd Round rookie Justin Reid next to Andre Hal. Honeybadger would be interesting in free agency if he goes to a team willing to use his strengths in the slot.
  • Marcus Gilchrist/Reggie Nelson – This is a mess. They released 2nd Round sophomore Obi Melifonwu. Former 1st Rounder Karl Joseph was benched most of this season but has started getting snaps. Joseph/Melifonwu could’ve made a fantastic combo. Unfortunately, neither are Gruden Grinders…
  • Chris Conte – Fourth Round rookie Jordan Whitehead took over when Conte was IRed, but he’s splitting time and apparently not fully ready yet.
  • Mike Adams/Eric Reid – Starting safety combo could be gone. Third Round rookie Rashaan Gaulden wasn’t ready this season when Da’Norris Searcy went to IR. Maybe he’s ready next year.
  • Ha Ha Clinton-Dix – HHCD replaced 4th Round sophomore Montae Nicholson when he went to Washington. Maybe Nicholson recovers from his sophomore slump.
  • Landon Collins/Curtis Riley – The entire safety combo could be gone. The Giants have nobody to replace them.
  • Tre Boston – Arizona plays a 3-Safety base. Boston stays high, allowing Budda Baker to stay near the line of scrimmage and cover the slot. If Boston walks, hope they replace him for Baker’s sake.
  • Ron Parker – The Chiefs are a mess at safety. Fourth Round rookie Armani Watts is on IR. Hopefully, he can step up next season.
  • Clayton GeathersMatthias Farley will be an RFA this offseason and is on IR at the moment. He proved last year he could produce when Geathers was out.
  • Adrian Amos Jr. – Amos would be interesting on the open market. He offered very consistent production prior to Chicago upgrading its LB corp. Chicago doesn’t have a replacement on the roster.

Hot Seats

In #IDP, you always have to be a couple of steps ahead. When a defensive transitions from a 3-4 base to a 4-3 base, it creates huge swings of value. So it’s important to keep an eye on coaches that may be replaced.
