Dynasty Fantasy Football Startup Mock Draft Strategy: @DFF_MR Rounds 1-3

Always Be Building Show Hosts @FFChalmers and @FFDelly returned from a brief hiatus Tuesday night, inviting numerous DFF Analysts and Friends to participate in a Dynasty Fantasy Football Startup Mock Draft. The purpose? Arm you, the subscriber, with everything you need to dominate any final startup drafts you might be joining as the NFL season approaches, but with a thought process to back up our selections. This series can be followed on our YouTube Channel and Website, and we’ll be updating as we progress in the coming weeks on the ABB Show brought to you by @DFF_Dynasty

I will never stop banging the drum on deeper dives, but we’re not going to get that in our initial article. Instead, I’ll provide you with background on why I took CeeDee, BTJ, and TreV to start in this Superflex Format + PPR + TEP (.5) + three Flex spots. Here are my picks for Rounds 1-3 with a focus on elite WRs to start my build.

CeeDee Lamb – Pick 1.12

This was an easy smash at 1.12, given the field had taken all four QBs I’d select in Round 1, and the RBs I would’ve smashed at my position back of the mock (Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs) were off the board. CeeDee is a season removed from 135/1,749/12 during Dak Prescott’s healthy 2023 season. The bulk of that damage came in the second half of the fantasy football campaign on his way to 403.2 PPR points as Lamb led all wide receivers. His production fell off last year, but there’s a significant difference between Prescott and Cooper Rush throwing the ball, no matter how much Dak hate exists. Here’s my favorite change – now he has George Pickens on the other side to attract coverage, which should free up 88 for a monster season and continuing Dynasty success.

Brian Thomas Jr. – Pick 2.01

I’ll say it loud and proud – BTJ > God. Brian Thomas Jr. smashed his 2024 Startup ADP with an insane rookie season that saw him amass 87/1,282/10 on his way to a Pro Bowl selection. BTJ was mostly outshone by Malik Nabers at LSU and by Nabers’ early emergence as the Giants’ absolute target-hog. But as the season progressed, BTJ quickly emerged as Trevor Lawrence’s (and Mac Jones‘ once Trevor Lawrence went down due to injury) primary threat in the passing game. His 133 targets were simply sensational for fantasy, and although Jacksonville drafted Travis Hunter at #2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, don’t expect BTJ’s target share to decrease. Assuming Hunter plays a majority of his snaps on offense, this should mean even more production for the 6’3” and 210 lbs. speedster (4.33 40-yard dash NFL Combine).

TreVeyon Henderson – Pick 3.12

We had a little fun with this pick as the show closed, and I explained that TreVeyon Henderson at 3.12 was similar to drafting discount Jahmyr Gibbs at Pick 36. I love the skillset, and to me, he’s the most Jahmyr Gibbs of Jahmyr Gibbs-es. We know that historically New England has struggled to draft solid WRs (we’ll see what happens with Kyle Williams), but they’ve historically done well with RBs at least out of the gate (Sony Michel, Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, James White). Enter one of my favorite Devy targets over the last four years. In my mind, TreV would have been the first RB off the board had he declared for the 2024 Draft. Instead, he elected to stay at Ohio State and split carries with Quinshon Judkins to take care of unfinished business en route to a National Championship for the Buckeyes. Henderson will overtake Stevenson as the RB1 within the first four games if not by the end of Training Camp, as an elite 3-down back with great hands and ridiculous burst in the open field. Imagine a combination of LeGarrette Blount x James White on an offense with Josh McDaniels (back yet again) running the show and Drake Maye entering a second season with expectations to take the next step. Henderson will be instrumental in that plight as New England’s newest PPR Machine.
