Looking for a few players to beef up your DL? These sleepers are players I want on my benches heading into next season. It’s always a good idea to keep young potential at the ready.
Demarcus Walker, Denver Broncos
Okay, if you’re aware of him you’re asking why I have him listed as DE. Denver has blown this kid’s rookie season. After suffering some injuries, the Denver brain trust thought it would be a great move to use him at OLB. This has resulted in a fair amount of healthy scratches. At his best as a situational pass rusher who can use his tools (speed and hands) to blow past the interior offensive linemen and create havoc, he will be on the DL next season. I can’t even express how upsetting it is to see him wasted this season. He was never a traditional lineman, needed to be used in packages, and he still can be very good at that role. Good chance he is a free add in your league. If you’re able to demote rookies to your taxi squad, I would. He should be used to get the QB, and if Denver does the smart thing, this kid will be a nice addition to leagues that score sacks well.
Tanoh Kpassagnon, Kansas City Chiefs
Staying in the AFC West, we have another player who disappeared under no fault of his own. Tanoh was looking like a gamer in the preseason, and expectations were skyrocketing, then exploded, and he vanished. The athleticism and traits are all there. Once he gets into this offseason and the coaching staff get him going at DE, where he can be a pass rushing weapon (sure could use that right now!) he will earn playing time next season. It’s a little odd that he has not been able to get snaps this season and I fully expect him to get meaningful snaps next season. Picking him up at this point should cost you nothing to take a shot and stash him.
Charles Harris, Miami Dolphins
Many have moved on from him. Dropped, cut, and out of mind in the majority of leagues. Perfect time to swoop in and add him to your taxi squads. I was a fan heading to the draft, look here for my DL rookie rankings. He was drafted early, and the expectations are always higher for early picks, but it takes time to learn the game. Cameron Wake is getting older, yet has one year remaining on his contract, which is 8 million. I have liked Harris much more lately. He is getting pressure, and the sacks will come. Only 22 years old he has plenty of time to grow. With his strength, he can hold his own, and as he learns how to use some balance and leverage, he will start to become a name to know. Watching him on tape, I can see he is very close to “getting it” and finishing.
These are a few plays you’ll be able to get very cheap to stash for next season. Keep building and stay ahead of your league mates! Feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFF_JohnIDP.
