So there is a player who wants to play for Houston…
The oldest two-headed…well it’s not exactly a “monster”, but it’s something that the Texans can now call their backfield. The 31-year-old Mark Ingram now sits behind the 29-year-old David Johnson in the Houston backfield. Both received one-year deals so it’s easy to see how the organization values these two players:
Player | Years Signed | Guaranteed Money | Total Salary |
David Johnson | 1 | $4.5M | $6.0M |
Mark Ingram | 1 | $0.5M | $3.0M |
What to do with Mark Ingram?
The money is in David Johnson. Mark Ingram is a nice culture piece in a locker room, but there’s no guarantee he’s even on the roster come week one given his current guaranteed money. Ingram finished last year with 349 total yards and two touchdowns. This isn’t a move that really makes sense if they were looking to improve the play on the field. However, the Texans seem like they’re doing whatever they can just to put some people in the room that Deshaun Watson might like. That’s just speculation though.
If you can somehow flip Mark Ingram to anyone in your dynasty league for anything at all, please go do so as soon as you read this next part…
Random Signing with a Big Impact?
On the surface, this feels like a signing that should mean nothing, however, this could be the best news David Johnson managers received since he signed his own extension nine days ago! David Johnson is most likely nearing the end of his fantasy relevance, but with an extension and the chance of Mark Ingram being his top competition for touches this year, he may just go out with a BANG! His health is a concern, but in the 12 games that Johnson was on the field in 2020, he scored double-digit points. Those numbers are golden for a player with an expert consensus ranking of RB27 on FantasyPros.
David Johnson is a great player and despite the injuries has been great for fantasy. If you’re a contender or are doing a start-up and decided to go try out a zero-RB strategy, Johnson is a great fit. The Ingram signing may even cause a dip in his perceived value when in reality, it should be viewed as an almost best-case-scenario. There’s no threat to take away his receiving work right now, and that’s key for running back relevancy as they get older. Go throw out some offers while the signing is still fresh!
