This week and every week going forward we’ll bring you several recommendations for players you should add to your dynasty rosters. We’ll mainly be targeting lower-owned guys who should be available in all but the deepest leagues.
Be sure to check out all of our in-season content right here.
(There will be no recommended FAAB spends in this article, as those decisions always depend on your team’s needs)
Isaiah McKenzie (WR – BUF)
Rookies generally don’t get much action early on in the season, especially rookie wide receivers drafted in the fifth round like Isaiah Mckenzie. Not only is he a rookie but he must compete against Stefon Diggs, John Brown, and Cole Beasley for playing time. Yet, he still got it. McKenzie caught all of his three targets for 17 yards in his NFL debut. No, nothing eye-popping in the stats there but the fact that he received those opportunities already is all I need to know. I was surprised to find him on a number of waiver wires in my dynasty leagues.
Javon Wims (WR – CHI)
Wims is a player I continue to have on my radar because the Bears continue to put him on the field despite plenty of talent at the position. Wims is a former seventh-round pick with very few NFL snaps under his belt. He caught just one pass for a critical touchdown in the Bears win over the Lions. Wims didn’t receive much work and will never be a target hog. But, this is the dynasty waiver wire, therefore, we must dig deep.
Olabisi Johnson (WR – MIN)
Johnson surprised us all and clawed his way up the depth chart, finding himself just behind Adam Thielen as the Vikings number two wide receiver on the opening day roster. He tied for second-most targets on the team and finished with three receptions on four targets for 56 yards. Most of the community has written off the undersized seventh-round pick but the Vikings certainly haven’t. ‘Bisi’ could still be on waivers considering everyone is waiting for the inevitable Justin Jefferson breakout. Admittedly, your league-mates could’ve caught wind of this one already.
Harrison Bryant (TE – CLE)
If you weren’t ahead of the curve it’s ok. This is a deep sleeper and he may still be on the wire. David Njoku was just placed on IR giving Bryant the opportunity to shine in his rookie season. Bryant was awarded Cleveland’s Maurice Bassett Award, which is voted by local reporters and is given annually to the Browns’ top-performing rookie at training camp. A few hype videos came out of camp a few weeks ago, creating even more offseason juice for the young TE. Hopefully, the news slipped by your league-mates and you can scoop him up now.
James O’Shaughnessy (TE – JAC)
Many of us play in TE Premium leagues, in which the position gets extra points for receptions, so even the low-end tight ends become valuable. James O’Shaughnessy is a player who caught fire early in 2019 as Gardner Minshew’s go-to guy in the red zone, before suffering a season-ending injury. Jacksonville signed Tyler Eifert this offseason but O’Shaughnessy still landed as the starter Week 1. Both had just one target and one reception, but we know Minshew has a connection with O’Shaughnessy. Just about everybody wrote him off and dropped him so he won’t be hard to find on waivers.
Myles Gaskin (RB – MIA)
I’m not sure anyone could’ve predicted Gaskins having more touches than Jordan Howard in Week 1, but it happened. He was third on the depth chart but finished with nine carries for 40 yards and four catches on four targets for 26 yards. Gaskins was highly touted coming out of Washington University before falling out of favor with the Cincinnati Bengals. He gets another chance with the Dolphins as the only young running back with a promise. Look for him on the waivers as I’m sure most have given up on him.
J.J. Taylor (RB – NE)
J.J. Taylor is on the waiver wire in all the leagues I’m NOT in. I snagged Taylor as soon as I heard he would make the active roster. I mean, have you seen his college tape? That’s enough to get your juices flowing and send you directly to the waiver wire to spend some FAAB. Below is a teaser from his college days to inject into your veins. Taylor gathered 28 yards on four carries and caught his lone target in his debut. The Patriots backfield is crowded, but this is a deep stash. I hear he is giving off 2017 Dion Lewis vibes.
