COLLEGE PRODUCTION
Year | Games Played | Receptions | Yards | Yards/Catch | TDs |
2018 (FR) | 12 | 7 | 89 | 12.7 | 1 |
2019 (SO) | 12 | 45 | 560 | 12.4 | 4 |
2020 (JR) | 4 | 22 | 330 | 15.0 | 4 |
2021 (SR) | 12 | 90 | 1,121 | 12.5 | 1 |
McBride put together a marvelous high school career, excelling in three different sports. He earned All-Colorado honors for football. He set his high school record for most RBIs and home runs hit in baseball. And he set the school record for most career points scored in basketball. At Colorado State University, McBride was a viable receiving option during his first three seasons. Then, he popped off during his Senior year, accumulating 1,121 receiving yards and one touchdown on 90 receptions. During the 12 games played in 2021, McBride hauled in at least six receptions in 11 of them. He also produced at least 59 receiving yards in 11 of the 12 as well. His average of 7.5 receptions and 93.4 yards per game in 2021 shows that he’s used to producing large workloads.
STRENGTHS
Puts a ton of effort in blocking situations. Huge, sticky hands. Able to haul in contested passes, and displays a ton of production after the catch. Excellent weight distribution, as he’s able to adjust and high-point the ball in mid-air.
WEAKNESSES
Not a huge catch radius, and often lacks physicality when running routes. Below-average route runner who only hauled in one touchdown reception in 2021. Inexperienced blocker in outside zone schemes. Shows potential as a route runner, but dips his head and whiffs too often.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At the NFL Combine, McBride measured in at 6’4” and 245 lbs. Which equates to a BMI of 29.8. He ran a solid 4.61 40-yard dash, equating to a 107.9-speed score. Both scores land him in the 85th percentile or higher. McBride also displayed a 116.3 burst score (48th percentile) and an elite college dominator of 46.3, which landed him in the 99th percentile.
His red flags include his height (6’4”) and strength in his position. McBride turned in 18 reps on the bench press, which landed him seventh among 10 tight ends who participated.
DRAFT ANALYSIS
Rapid Reaction to Draft Capital: Excellent
Rapid Reaction to Landing Spot: Fair
McBride was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.
Kyler Murray welcomes in another talented tight end to pair next to Zach Ertz. McBride should serve as a viable weapon next to other pass-catchers in DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore, and A.J. Green.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
McBride will likely serve as his team’s TE2 behind Ertz for now, but he’s clearly the team’s future TE1. He’ll compete with Maxx Williams for that TE2 spot, and he’ll likely be a late-round target in both rookie and dynasty start-up leagues even though he might be the top tight end in this draft. He should have a solid career, but we need to be patient with him in the fantasy football world.
