Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 6

“Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire” is written for fantasy football gamers in leagues that require a full complement of 11 defensive starters in leagues of 12 to 16 teams. Recommendations rely on scoring settings from FantasyPros.com, even though their value for passes defensed is a bit low. We’ll look for options at both conventional and true defensive positions as they arise. Players qualifying for this column are those rostered in no more than a third of IDP leagues on MyFantasyLeague.com (MFL). These recommendations further assume you, the manager, have finite roster space with challenging cut decisions to add new names.

2020 IDP Wrap Up: Off-Ball Linebacker

We learned that the young star linebackers were prepared to dominate once again! Both Roquan Smith and Devin White came into 2020 with extremely high expectations, and both delivered with resounding success. These two superstars combined for 280 total tackles (140 each), 32 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks on the season. Finishing just behind these two phenoms was a trio of consistent veterans in Zach Cunningham, Blake Martinez, and Joe Schobert. Barring any major unforeseen changes, the 2020 top five should produce well again in 2021.

In December, former MVP Russell Westbrook was jettisoned to Washington. Just a month later, Houston lost another former MVP in James Harden to Brooklyn. Yesterday, Houston “mutually agreed” to part with the face of their football franchise J.J. Watt. Lurking around the corner for Houston is a parting with star quarterback Deshaun Watson.

WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK The Atlanta defense came to play in a home drubbing of the Las Vegas Raiders. Throughout the game, the Falcons defenders were terrific, creating five turnovers, registering five sacks, and scoring a touchdown in the victory. Deion Jones, Jacob Tuioti-Mariner, and Steven Means lead the way for the Atlanta IDP producers. Raiding the IDP Waiver Wire: Week 8

NFL box scores from Week 7 provide fantasy gamers plenty of points to chase on the waiver wire. Several established veterans repeated their Week 6 heroics and remain available in many leagues. Your writer might have some small part in the small ownership numbers. Week 7 provided clarity for several of these players’ situations that should significantly boost fantasy gamers’ interest in them. Weeks like this require careful management of limited FAAB dollars. Those leaving the field with injuries sustained in Week 7 include Cardinals’ LB Jordan Hicks, Steelers’ LB Robert Spillane, Seahawks’ CB Shaquill Griffin, and two members of The Washington Football Team, DE Montez Sweat and S Landon Collins.
